tommy jones layout?

i read on another thread about a tommy jone's layout, what is it and what's its purpose?

I would imagine he's talking about the "trick" layout. It's an 80° MB with a 1 1/2" pin buffer and 4 1/2 pin to PAP. Goes really really long, and turns really really hard. Not really meant for THS.

It's actually one of my favorite layouts for THS, especially if you have a relatively low-volume THS out there. Reason being, once the heads start to go and/or the track gets burned up, you can either keep chasing the oil left, you can jump back outside with something very weak and try to play around the burn, of you can find something that lopes through the heads. The Jones layout can help you do that. Then, you just manage your reaction shape with surface.

Beware that it is definitely a strong mover at the breakpoint. Guys who are a little speed-dominant seem to really like it on THS. You won't know until you try it whether it will work for you, and you run the risk that if it doesn't, you have a very expensive gap-specific ball that you might never use.

I tried it on a TNV and it was way too condition specific. High rev/high speeed, it was just too strong off the dry. Over/under was an understatement.

It is meant for a professional bowler on a specific pattern....  Most AMs should avoid.

I have this drilling on a One and a Horizon Solid. It is actually a pretty good layout for me on a THS.

I tend to play much straighter than the average bowling schmoe. So I do not give the ball a whole lot of revs, since as others have mentioned it is very hard off the spot!

But if you're looking for length and strength.....this is the drill for you.

I think I'm going to take an older ball and give this a try.  I will likely modify it a bit and go with a 4" pin instead of 4.5".

this is really just a gigh pin with a small buffer.. it react like most balls with small pin buffers.. just goes a hair longer than shorter pins..
