Anyone ever try this kind of layout?
« on: September 13, 2008, 03:32:24 AM »
I'm looking to try to find a ball for deep into tournaments that has a stroger core. I have a Tornado but sometimes it just dosent get the job done. In match play there is probably around 30+ games all by bowlers playing in the middle of the lanes with outside of 7 out of bounds. I was looking to drill a ball with a 7 inch pin to pap. Any one ever try this? I have balls with 6 inch pin to paps and they are pretty strong for me. Any insight is appreciated!

Unless you get inventive with the pin placement, putting the pin further than 6 3/8 or 6 1/2 from your PAP will be in your track, pretty much eliminating all flare, making the core irrelevant.  I guess if you put the pin muck lower (even with your grip center or thumb), you could get the pin real far away from your PAP, but I don't know how that would roll.

For a tweener, even a power tweener, 6" is pretty weak.  I think you'd be better off learning different techniques for dealing with drying lanes.  Loft, floating the ball through the heads, seriously reducing your rev rate, changing your axis or tilt...

Haven't I heard somewhere going too far away from the PAP will actually cause reverse flare?

Thanks! I can back my hand out of the ball but I loose cary so I just wanted to see what a longer pin to pap would do. I have a Chery Vibe with a 6 inch pin and I feel it still makes a fairly strong move for me. I was looking at the Rayzr, but the no core aspect kinda make me think its going to leave alot of ten pins on pretty burnt out lanes with some carrydown.

You are correct Dan...the problem is that for every bowler the amount you can go left of the bridge with the pin is different.

I do agree with Strider here...learn to add tilt and soften your hand at the bottom of your swing and you will rule dry lanes.

Correct.

Bad things can also happen when you put pins on or past the VAL as well.

what dose a ball with the pin high up over the fingers typicly do? Say its still 5 1/2 to 6 inches from my pap and 2 to 3 inches over the fingers?

fair enough, lol. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll try backing my hand out of the ball at the tournament tomorrow, just as long as I carry I'll be fine.

Have you tried the new Tornado's with the F5 cover stock? Very impressive.
