Drilled a Roto Grip Scream to try my hand at the layout. It didnt look quite right but it hooks...... a lot for a ball with a high rg low diff.

Ball specs
3 7/8" pin, 3.03 oz top weight

Layout
64x4x30, hole 7/8" 3" deep
Fingers drilled 3 1/2" deep
Thumb drilled 3" deep

Ending weights:
3/4 oz side, <5/8 oz finger

A ball doesn't have both finger and thumb weights. -- JohnP

With that layout on it, it's no longer low differential...

How far is the xhole from the thumb? I typically have mine at 1.5" from the edge of the thumb. Also prefer not to drill the fingers over 2.5" if possible.

2" so its not an official double thumb i was doing all this from the top of my head couldnt exactly remember everything and i drilled the fingers that deep so I could create the thumb weight to add the hole, but i cant complain, first set out of box, 279,257,251,787.

I tried to read up about this term and layout on bowlingchat.net but there's not really much about this kind of layout in the Wiki.

So with that said, what is the design purpose for this sort of layout and what kind of reaction would be expected?

A ball can have either negative or positive side weight.
It can have finger or thumb weight.
The last is either top weight or bottom weight.

Of the above three groups, you {u}can't[/u] have both... It's either one or the other

It is designed to raise the diff of the bowling ball and is Mo's way of, for lack of better term, "maximize" ball reaction. I had this layout before in a Track Uprising. Loved the ball, but couldnt find enough oil for it. The Scream has a medium low diff so it makes the ball usable on the Dry THS I mainly bowl on.

I understand. However, if you drill a ball and you come up with 1.5 oz positive side, would you not check the finger/thumb to determine where a hole can go or maybe if you can bury the fingers or thumb a little deeper? Or am i missing the point?

Yes, you said your ending weights had both finger and thumb. That is impossible. It has one or the other, but not both.

Just like a ball can not have positiv side and negative side, it can have only one.
