Calibrating a jig

Does anybody know how to go about making sure your jig is properly calibrated?

you could use a dial indicator to make sure its moving the right amount.

I guess what I really need to know is if it is properly centered.  I think my lateral may be off by as much as 1/8".

I'm not really sure if this is what a pro shop would use if they  felt they had the same issue you're having, but something like this should do the trick...

Mine is beautiful for that.

An Amf jig...it has a metal cylinder that one puts in a hole in the center.

When set at 0, 0 the drill bit should center on the mark of the metal cylinder.
Easy, beautiful....and maybe for sale again....alog with drill press....sweet!

Set your jig on 0-0.Drill a test hole in an old junk ball.Measure your pitchs with a reliable pitch gauge(I prefer a Jonel).Adjust your scale to correct.Test again,you should read 0-0.

That's what prompted this.  I was trying to make a mold of my thumb and was having some issues with getting the thumb part centered in my slug mold.  I decided to drill a hole at 0-0 (I think) and then use that for my mold.  When I measured the hole it came out at 1/8 right and 0.

Problem is it's been a while since I drilled that hole and I don't remember if I really set it at 0-0.

When I put a long threaded rod in the chuck and set it at 0-0 it doesn't point to the center of the ball holder - I don't know if it's supposed to or not.

Obviously I'd like to have set so that 0-0 is really 0-0 - I don't know how to go about adjusting the jig on the press (bought everything already put together), but I guess it'll be okay as long as know that it's off a certain amount before I set the pitches.

Yes should point at dead center of cup.

Obviously you must move your jig on the attached drill table 1/8 of an inch right.  As it is currently 1/8 of an inch left.

Right you are!  Drilled a couple of test holes tonight and it is off by 1/8!  Maybe now I can work on getting the correct pitches drilled!
