Pitch Gauges

What is the difference between the top two products on this web page

the jonell and the classic pro

the price is substantially different but is the performance better...

also what is the true pitch set underneath those two

The accuracy of the Jonell Gauges is second to none. They are the most accurate by far, but it seems more pro shops have the Classic Pro set even though they aren't as accurate because they are cheaper.

qstick777, if you just want them for yourself, maybe a couple friends, then the plastic ones will do the job. I used them as well for finding a pitch on someone's ball when the fingers were not drilled deep enough for the classics. They have a use, a place, I just decided to get the classic set to be more accurate. Jonell's are the best, top notch but the price is as well. I have had no problems with the classics and that's just what I use.

The tru's are easy to use and very cost effective....Good Luck.

Okay, stupid question:

With the classic pitch gauges, which way do you read them?  Obviously if you put the gauge in the thumb one way it will read reverse pitch, but if you flip it around it will read forward.

I know it's stupid, but I figure maybe I'm not the only stupid person that doesn't know.

qstick777 -- Figure out which direction the portion of the gauge that's in the hole is pointing.  That's the direction of the pitch.  --  JohnP

Yes...the trus...are slightly slower and subject to loss...but they are cheap and measure BOTH...hole size...and pitch!

Great for a home setup!

Thanks JohnP!  I really just didn't think about it - I just remember that when I put the gauge in and then spun it around it was the same, but putting in the other direction.  Would hate to have them backwards and tell somebody it is 1/4 left when it's really right!

As always, I think the problem is more with the terminology about forward and reverse, up and down, etc.  

I tried to go back and find the post from a while ago about which was which (referencing the grip center, etc) but I couldn't find it.

Ball orientation is fingers up, thumb down.  Pitch toward grip center is forward, away from grip center is reverse for both fingers and thumb.  Left and right are obvious.  --  JohnP

Cool, so if I have the ball fingers up, if I put the gauge in the thumb, I'd want the writing to be facing the right, and for the fingers I would have the writing facing the left.

If I keep the writing facing me (so always facing down), left pitch would be read as "reverse," and right would be "forward."
