what is this and how do you find it?

Ummmmmm...  No, the VAL is not parallel to the bowlers initial ball track.

The VAL is a line perpendicular to the midline and one that passes through the bowlers positive axis point.

It is perpendicular to the midline, but not parallel to the centerline (I'm assuming that's what you called the grip line).  It intersects with the centerline above the finger holes.  --  JohnP
