very high track
« on: June 08, 2014, 12:07:15 PM »
Good morning. I have a bowler with a track so high, it hits his thumb edge or very close to it all the time. Can you explain to me, can a thumb pitch change lower his track? Most of his equipment is drilled using 2.45 or close RG's and diffs. with .048 and above. Just wondering. He is heading to Reno and want something different. Any suggestions. May be too late. He is coming today for me to drill. I have never drilled for this gentleman. He is disappointed with other drilling shops. They never see him bowl and never checks his pap. I am doing that today. Thanks for any help.

Just from my experience, I track high and clip my thumb holes on certain drillings and/or balls. I've tried the grip change per mo techniques several years ago and it caused hand issues during or after bowling after prolong use. This changes were with two differnt shops.

Anyway, I went back to my old grip till my current updated grip/span today. I was taught to adjust my rotation and tilt instead and that worked.....no more tiredness, soreness, or pain...

Btw, I'm no expert nor am I doubting Mo P's drillings techniques. I'm just speaking of experience. I just think for me, it was unnatural to position my hand/fingers in a certain way to alter my roll. Learning ti adjust my set up and/or roll was the way for me to go.

Only referencing clipping the thumb generally relates to the thumb staying in the ball too long during the rotation of the wrist/hand at release or the hand is on the outside of the swing plane feeding it into the lane. It is either too long of a span or the thumb is angled towards the palm delaying the release.

Any chance he's actually a full roller that happens to be clipping the thumb because he is using 3/4 roller layouts?

i track a lil over my thumb hole when I play straight up the back like walter ray and i heard its fine, and if your annoyed of it tracking over thumb hole easy fix is to play with less roll and more rotation meaning more off the side of the ball if ya catch my drift but imma rookie don't gotta listen to me.

But what im trying say is the drilling have little affect on the track because if your throwing end over end its gonna track over the thumb... but ya dont gotta listen to the rookie hehehehe

Check his thumb lateral angle and how his hand is oriented at release.  I was a high tracker and my track was right on the edge of my thumb.   I needed more right pitch in my thumb and this allowed my hand to orient more down the T-line and have a clean release.  This moved my track a considerable amount off of the thumb.
