Title: Vise Eaxactacated Thumb Insert Kit
Post by: handy zone on May 05, 2008, 12:05:38 PM
Has anyone used this? I bought the kit to  duplicate some thumbs that were drilled oval.  I having problems with the resin not getting real hard. I talked with Vise and I was told to heat the resin to 85 degrees would help in curing, but still the slugs don`t seem real hard like a urethane slug, more like vinyl slug. also hard to get out of mold. Any suggestions apprec. Mike

That is fairly typical of the VISE stuff. Even using more hardener didn't work well for me...

Nick, I watched your video and did all that you said, except I need to use Wizard resin...  Right?

Wizard is a more consistent, and the feel is very close to a slug.

I've even used Techline HD for making a thumb insert, although vaseline is needed on the inside of mold cylinder (so it doesn't stick) and it takes overnight to cure.

I only used the Vise plug, didn't have too much trouble with it.  I found that when I put 3-4 drops of black plug color in the plug, the inserts cured slicker.  Probably just me though.

Yes, I tried Techline, Wizard and the Vise Plug they send with the kit and the Wizard is the one that hardens the hardests and feels more like a urethane slug than the others.  Give that a try.

Thanks everybody. Plan to get and try the Ultimate Wizard. I like the harder feel of the slug. The Vise resin is softer and does`nt keep its shape.
