modified rico?
« on: October 22, 2009, 07:38:47 PM »
as we know the rico needs to have the x hole 63/4" from the pin, yesterday punched up a reign after drilling found out that the excess weight is only 1/4 so technically it makes it not necessary to have the x hole right?
so we tried something and punched the x hole on my pap found out the ball still carried like the normal rico but the flare was like about 2" from the fingers and thumb

my question is ...does it reduce the power of the rico drill by placing the x hole at any other place other than 6 3/4" from the pin?

hope u know what i am trying to put across

thanks

The hole on you're PAP decreased flare slightly.  A hole well past your VAL (6-3/4" from the pin as you suggested) increases flare.  A hole closer than the VAL (say 2" in)will decrease flare more.  That all applies to symmetrical.  With asymmetrical, on the other hand, anything off of the PAP increases flare.  On the PAP decreases flare.

By USBC standards, it doesn't need a hole.

But without a hole it is not a Rico drilling and will not react like one. It makes no difference in today's balls, if you drill the weight hole and it has 3/4 ounce of negative weight. I've done that many times, the balls still hook, like crazy. If you want a Rico, drill it like a Rico.

Yes, not putting the hole there reduces the flare potential that is part of the Rico dynamics. Put the hole at 6 3/4" where it's supposed to be.
