Title: Want to drill my own balls
Post by: slowbubblecar on October 16, 2006, 04:00:03 PM: I have no experience in drilling bowling balls and want to learn how. Do you know where a good place would be to get info on learning? I also need to know a good place to buy drilling equipment and a spinner. I would prefer used, but it might be hard to find. I have a drill press but that is it. I don't have a jig or anything else. Please let me know how you learned how to drill balls. I heard it is pretty easy from a guy at work who used to do it a while back, but I have no clue.

It takes skill to measure and fit a bowling ball correctly.

My advice, go to your local shop. If you know the operator well enough, I'd just ask him or her if they'd be willing to show you the ropes and go from there.

I just want to do it becasue I think it would help being able to know more about the balls and could save me a lot of money in the long run. I know it will be expensive getting everything needed, but I am in no big hurry to start either. I wish I was able to take time off work and school to take the class, but I am a college student working 50hrs a week and going to school full time. I have been taking summer classes as well. That would definately be a fun thing to take when I am out though. I am saving your web address.

Is there much different about drilling balls now than there was 10 years or so ago? The guy that said he would help me hasn't done it in a while. Also, does anyone know a few good places that sells equipment? I only have a drill press so far and will need to get a lot of stuff.

The steps and procedures that you take to get to that point of the process have advanced greatly (fitting, ball layout, lane play concepts, etc.). Good luck!
