I mistakingly posted this under General Misc, so moved it over here where it should be...sorry!! Please help, I have a NIB Sling Blade that I want to drill to react exactly like the one I am currently using. The problem is a difference in pin length. My current Sling is a 3" pin drilled with pin above ring almost touching 1/8" above and even with right edge. The cg is 1/4" right of grip center and 1/2" above midline. The NIB Sling has a 2 1/8" pin. Both have the same top weight at 2 3/4. My dilema is if I put the pin in the exact same position then the cg will be 7/8" higher creating more finger weight. So, do I place the pin the same and drill the fingers deep to try to maintain equal dynamics or do I lower the pin and keep the cg the same...which will give me the same results as my original?

Lay it out with the same pin to PAP distance and the same pin location in relation to the fingers (of course, you do realize the pin being that close to the fingers voids the warranty). Drill the fingers the normal depth and throw the ball. If it reacts like you want it to, I'd drill the fingers just enough deeper to make the static weights legal (assuming the finger weight was >1 oz). If it doesn't react like you want it to, use a properly located balance hole to make the weights legal and modify the reaction. -- JohnP

Thanks JohnP, So what you are saying is that the pin position is more critical than the cg ( dynamic weight)...I agree but the only concern I have is that if drilling fingers deeper doesn't remove enough finger weight then a weight hole would have to be placed somewhere that would also affect side weight also. The pin near the finger has not created any problems on this coverstock as ball is 2 years old but I agree some balls do not do well with drilling on or near the pin. The reason I am trying to match this ball reaction is that a friend of mine has borrowed this ball several times for match play tourneys and has averaged 238 for 12 games now.He wants to buy my NIB and wants the same reaction. I probably should just sell him the original and redrill the new one for me as this is not my go to ball....but when the shot calls, this ball is so good for me that I do not want to give it up unless I can recreate it.

You will be able to drill the finger weight out by deepening the finger holes. A couple of reasons I suggested throwing it before drilling the holes deeper -- first, there's always the possibility it might end up legal, then if you like the reaction you're done. Second, if you like the reaction but the finger weight is high you can drill out just enough to make it legal. Third, if you would like to tweak the reaction you have the options of either using a balance hole, just drilling one of the finger holes deeper, or drilling them both deeper -- and you can do these one step at a time, checking the reaction each time. -- JohnP
