I am looking at getting a new ball for a particular center that i bowl at. The oil is kinda light and short. getting to the pocket isnt a problem but haveing to play so deep in doing so my carry really struggles. The people who are scoreing the best at present and for the past few months are tweeners and fluffers playing anywhere right of 15. So I am looking at getting something I can square up with and move right, I would prefer something long and smooth off the dry. my scout reactive is long enough down lane but it is very flippy at the break and I dont really care for this type of reaction playing to the right. So i am open to some suggestions. I have a hot rod hybrid nib and a super sport pearle nib would either of these work with the proper drilling? Lmk thanks.

This is what I have tried so far with limited success. ego drilled 12'oclock pin high and above and between fingers 5-1/2x5-1/2 almost what i need but it rolls a little to early but is smooth in transition but strong still, I polished it and it became to flippy, freak out 5-1/2x3 long and to strong on the back. exception 4x5-1/2 just to strong all the way around even with polish. scout 4x5-1/2 long and to strong on the back. vertigo 5-1/2x4 pin below fingers haha dont ask this is the ball i shot 800 with last friday at the other house with a bit more oil although tubed and floating backends it works well there but just to early at the short oil center. Ok I have alot of balls laying around and can probably try a few test drills on, from what i remember they are inferno 4" pin,silver streak particle 4-5" pin, viscous reactive pearl 3" pin, vendetta particle pearl 2-3"pin, TPc shooter 3-4"pin, storm recharge 3-4"pin, Stinger 2 piece 3" pin, beast pearl mica pin in, triton elite 5"pin and my gold rhino cracked so i cant use it.

I like the Pure Hammer with a pin close to the PAP; it gives good length and arcs off the dry. The drilling create very low flare so you'll have control.

When Ron Clifton comes to town, he usually puts down a flat 25 to 30 foot pattern and teaches us at the Clinic http://www.artisticshores.com/bes/, the importance of a smooth release. If I let the ball just roll off my hand without any grab at the bottom I score pretty well, but as soon as I get the slightest bit of fingers, the ball JUMPS.

Try your scout or your Stinger low flare and make sure you don't grab the ball at the bottom of your swing. I imagine the Hybrid would work great on this type of shot, mine does.

In Bowling This Month magazine, I read an article by Denny Torgerson discussing the use of stronger drilling patterns for high rev players to control jumpy back ends. A friend of mine who revs the snot out of the ball has had success with Leverage layouts to control jumpy backends.

I was toying around with a few different hand positions the other night when bowling league at that house, I had limited success and ended up with a 640 for the night. I was hopeing the hand position changes would work for me and they did for about a game and a half, then the track burned up with a little bit of carry down and i was fishing after midway through the second game. I untucked my pinky and broke my wrist back to where it was straight and this seemed to work the first game and induced a good forward roll, I was useing the vertigo for this. After the transition started the vertigo was a no go and was burning early and pinging flat 10 pins. I tried to move left and ride the oil line and see what happened but I didnt have enough tilt or axis rotation with this realease to have any recovery. So I then tried the vendetta particle pearl and it was better but still a touch strong when it would hit the dry. Ended up useing the scout with my wrist broke all the way back and throwing it up 10 @ the arrows and 6 @ the break the hit was good and carry was descent but I really would hate to have to go through this transition & routine every week just to shoot low 600 while getting beat down by 60-100 pins from the other bowlers. I am some what looked up to around the center and I am always asked whats wrong and why i aint scoreing as well as others lol. it wouldnt be bad if every one was shooting close to the same scores but we arent and I am usualy the lowest out of the premier guys in the league, not a good feeling. I even quite getting into brackets and eliminator because I really dont have the ability to score with the other guys right now and hate knowing that. I have seen some have success with the mercury,ambush,the one,action,rsx and target zone. A high rev lefty cranker shot 800 a couple weeks ago with his target zone, so i thought i would give mine a try but just didnt have the same look he did through out the lane and all. I just need the right blend off the dry with moderate length and I think i will be close. It is really confuseing the heck out of me wich way to go and what lay out to use. It seems as if the concensous is saying go pin close to pap and shift cg close to center of grip.

Glad to see you post. I'd give the pin in Pearl Beast a shot. Label it, it should be smooth off the break. I have an old Pearl Super Beast (pre-96)pin-in that is real sweet for when I need to square up. Kind of just effortlessly floats to the hole.

Is the Stinger a Low Flare? I see that ball come out of the bags when the oil is short. Another good ball for what you are trying to do.

Stronger drillins as in pin close to pap or leveraged? what angle should the cg be at? stacked or shifted left or right? I had a depth charge that cracked on me that was wonderful with a modiefied lable leverage layout. I never got to use it at said house so i dont know if it would of worked  but it was long and smooth.

Pointing the cg toward the pap will cause the ball to roll on the back end, stacking it will tend to be more continuous, pointing the cg toward the track will cause the ball to arc on the back end. You will have to make that decision yourself based on carry. If you already have several balls drilled with these different patterns try them and see which carries better.

A pin axis layout should work well. Have you tried that yet..? As far as balls go with a stronger layout, I'd try a Lane #1 Bullet or a XXXL. =:^D

Does your Vendetta Part Pearl have a balance hole?
The reason I ask is I have one that is 3" pin, drilled 4" pin to PAP pin 2" above midline CG swung toward PAP 1/2" and 3/4" below midline, balance hole is on my VAL and down 2" from PAP. This is the smoothest rolling ball I have ever used. Before putting the balance hole in it was a bit to strong off the dry but the low hole allows it to burn a bit quicker and gives me a nice smooth arc with great drive through the pins, very rare that I leave a 10 with it.

No the vendetta doesnt have a balance hole< i might try that. I did end up drilling the hybrid. box specs were 3-4 inch pin 2.25 top 14.04 # I went with 6x4 layout cg in thumb quadrant. Ball looks to be what I am looking for although i only used it 2 games last night untill i got sick and had to rush home. Did shoot 277 first game and backed it up with a solid 179 seond game. transition set in and it looked like this ball didnt like the carry down but i wasnt in the mood to pay much attention with my back starting to bother me more and more with each shot so i called it quits and left. But tonight i will be there again on the mens league and see how it goes, hopefuly there wont be any ureathane being thrown tonight on our pair so i can see a good transition and get an idea of how the ball handles a normal breakdown with out more carry down than usual like last night. This ball is super smooth through the entire lane and awsome off the dry with no sudden movement, smooth and even is what I was seeing last night so I might be on the right track now. Thank you all for the help.
