Yes i do want feedback.
The biggest difference in any ball is the coverstock. As an example, a plastic ball with a low rg and a med differential is going to react much different than a heavy load particle ball with a low rg and a med diff.
Right now, everything is on one screen, since its being developed, i wanted to make sure all the functionality was there, it will be spread out over several screens in the near future. I know its alittle confusing now, but it will be in an order that makes more sense.
when you query anything, you can select from the coverstock pulldown to make sure that it is equivalent, otherwise you may get plastic balls and particle balls that match. next time just select the type from the list.
The way the system figures out the RG's and differential (whats low, med etc) is based on the values in the database, it takes the median (meaning the difference between the hi and low, excluding the very lows and highs). so its a sampling of the data, and may change slightly as the database expands. I figured it would be easier to use the words instead of the numbers.
currently it is:
RG
low = 0-2.498
med/low = 2.499-2.566
med = 2.567-2.634
med/hi = 2.635-2.702
hi=2.703 - 9.9
DIFF
low = 0-.028
med/low = .029-.041
med = .042-.054
med/hi = .055-.067
hi=.068 - 1.0
I figured this would be the best way since it is relative to the data, if you look at the manufacturers data, they all use diffent ranges. my thinking was to keep it relative to the data to somewhat standardize it. I am open to suggestions for other ranges. When you compare ball1 to ball2 however, the system does go by the actual rg and differential numbers.
Now keep in mind, the purpose of this site is not to say "you need to buy this ball", nothing replaces the advice of a good pro-shop, its intended to be used as a reference, to point you in the right direction, give you a selection that fits the basic criteria. And its really not for the novice, its intended for higher end bowlers and proshop operators who know what they are doing. With the number of balls out, its nearly impossible to stay on top of them no matter who you are.
The reason i did this is i figured there had to be a better way than to sit in a pro shop and look at pages and pages of literature to find a ball, especially since there isnt really a way to look at all manufacturers in one place and cross compare them.
Plus i tried to answer the questions i had, like "i want a ball alittle flippier than my core power LRG".
as far as figuring out how much oil its for, that definatly something you need to talk to a pro-shop operator. It varies so much with each person no system can tell you that. Im sure a ball robert smith uses on heavy oil, Joe "fluff" will not get the same results. Obviously with the newer particle balls, the higher the particle content, the more oil you will need.
So use it for what its worth, its a reference not a concrete recommendation. Ideally, you should look at it as a list of balls that should do what you want, now go to the proshop, see what they have and ask "which of these do you think fit my game", this way of the 50 balls on display, there are only a few that your interested in.
or if your a proshop operator and a customer comes in asking for "a ball that hooks earlier than my V2" you know instantly which of the 50 balls on your display you should direct them to.
