Title: Weight hole placement (vertical question)...
Post by: JessN16 on February 15, 2008, 10:13:10 AM
Roughly speaking, in regards to what difference it makes in terms of reaction, what is the difference in placing a weight hole in the finger-positive quadrant versus the thumb-positive quadrant? I'm trying to figure out how ball reaction will change as I go vertically up and down the VAL with my weight hole.

Typically placing the weighthole in the thumb quadrant(further from the pin) will take out more material from the side of the core, which will increase the differential rg of the ball, making it hook a little earlier. Placing the hole in the finger quadrant (closer to the pin) typically will lower the differential rg, and give you the opposite effect.

Thanks. I think I know what each should show me downlane, but what will each typically do to the reaction (i.e., earlier roll, skid/snap, etc.)?
