weight hole placement advice needed
« on: March 10, 2008, 09:32:21 AM »
I have drilled a ball for a customer and weighed it up and we ended with 1 oz. negative side, 1 oz. thumb, and 1 1/4 oz. top.  The ball is a med-low flare reactive pearl and 11 lb.  The customer has a span around 3 1/2" and is a full roller.  The ball had a 1" pin.  I placed the pin 3 3/8 from grip center, cg is 2 3/8 from grip center.  Now for the question...

a) should I just leave it alone (it is legal although on the border)

b)  put a weight hole in the negative thumb quadrant on a line from grip center through cg and pin to take out some negative side and thumb

c)  or, other creative solution?

Thanks for your help.

Scott

D, if you would like the ball to go longer and finish harder on the backend, you will need to end with positive side and finger weight, roughly equal amounts of all three.

With the ball being that light(11lbs.) It'll be hard to take a lot of weight out with a hole without it being gIgunda..!! But, if you do want a different reaction a hole in the thumb neg. quad is the place to put it.

For placement, go 6 3/4" from your grip center, over towards the negative side and then down 3 3/8". This will take out equal amounts of neg. side and thumb. Now from there, come back towards your grip 2"(this will take out some top) and place a 1 1/8" hole 2 1/2" deep.

You will now have a ball that goes longer and has more backend when the lanes are drier or if your ball is currently burning up too soon. Good luck. =:^D
