Vise Grips "IT" versus Griploc System
« on: September 09, 2008, 02:34:35 AM »
Has anyone gotten the new Vise Grips "IT" interchangeable thumb slug system yet?  Just wondering how it compares to the Griploc system.  I've been installing the Griploc system for over 3 years now and even my first ones I've installed still work great.  I think I've actually drove out a local guy who used to sell the Thoms Thumb system.  (Boy that feels good when you drill through that piece of crap!!)  I've seen the video to install it and boy it looks complicated, and I'm a Civil Engineer for my real job.  Just wondering if anyone has seen it.  I don't know if anyone has it up here in the Northeast yet. I know Chris at Buddies has the Turbo Swithgrip system.

Thanx.

Does VISE offer a PBA member Discount ?

Also, once they are inserted into the ball, are they easy to turn like switch grip ?

Easy to turn?? like coming loose? or removing to put in another ball? This has been tested with over 500 lbs of pressure and didn't break or come loose. As far as changing to another ball, NO PROBLEM!!!!

like coming loose in your backswing.

It looks like they screw into the bottom of the ball.  I like a tight thumb hole and do not want the slug to turn if i happen to grab the ball.

Guess my problem its hard to fork out $400 without first seeing the product.  I've had switch grip, grip loc and thoms thumb in my shop and when I inquired to VISE for a sample, they refused.  They said I had to purchase the starter kit.

I am very close in calling my distributor and placing the order.

Thanks for answering my questions, hopefully this will be the last one.

I've never had the Vise IT twist or turn in my thumb hole after it's locked into place.  And because of the double anchoring system, I've never had one come out.  You have the base glued into the thumbhole, but you also have a molly sunk into the bottom of it to lock it into place.  My ball driller forgot to put glue on the base on one ball when he was unusually busy before league, and I threw the ball in practice and the thumb STILL stayed in the ball.  Impressive.  (On the other hand, I lost a Turbo Switchgrip thumb insert once when it was still in the ball going down the lane, but gone by the time it came back through the ball return!)

This is the only interchangeable thumb system that I've found literally no problems with.  They obviously spent a lot of time designing and engineering it to be as reliable and simple as possible.
