Is this a drill pattern
« on: December 28, 2007, 09:06:30 PM »
Is there such a drill pattern with the pin below the finger and the cg above kicked to the right for a right hander?

When i bowl with a ball drilled for a left hander that is flipped around ie there thumb hole above my finger i get a nice even reaction not the huge snap i am used to seeing on dry backends

Aussie Bowler, I have used a variation of the 315 layout on several balls with success.I put the pin in the center of the grip and pointed the C.G. in the 1:30 direction. With my PAP measurement this works out to be a 330 degree layout. I put it on a Blueberry Buzzsaw,AMF Titan Solid,Ebonite Blue Ice,Brunswick Shock Zone Pro.They all hit and carried well.Ball tracked between fingers and thumb just like a full roller.More length than full roller layouts with a hard arc on the backend. This gave me a 4 ball arsenal that worked well from med heavy to light oil.

You tracked between your fingers and thumb??? How the heck could you do that? Where do you "usually" track? I've tried this layout before and seen many others try it too.. I never tracked like a fullroller nor ever seen any do it with this layout..

First time I drilled a ball with this layout was with " The Professional" and I shot a 300 game right out of the box, Rev's up early, so you wouldn't want to do this drill pattern with too many balls

SKC-Yes I tracked Between the fingers and thumb.Whenever I use a full roller layout I do this.On a conventional layout I track 1/4" from the finger holes and usually clip the thumb. Why would anybody lie about it? What would be the point? On my full roller layouts I put the pin anywhere from 3&3/8" to grip center to actually in the grip center with the CG in a 1:30 direction. This layout is a copy of a full roller, the only difference being the pin is in the grip center.

MikeE is a VERY high tracker, so when he puts the pin that low, it skews the core's dynamics, and raises his already high track and forces the core to flare the other way.

Normally, if you look at the diagram for the 315 degree drill, the pin position is much higher than MikeE's center of the grip, like under or right of the ring finger for a righty. This is why this drill requires a very short pin-CG distance AND, according to Mario, requires a mass bias core ball, like the Sahara or the Tsunami, and it requires a high weight hole to offset the high CG's finger positive weight (unless the starting top weight is very light). This drill is also a very early rolling drill.

Yo Mike.. Chill.. I'm not calling you a liar.. Just never seen it before with this layout.. Or anyone else in general capable of doing so without changing their release drastically..
I used to track very high and the first time i tried the 315* i tracked over the middlefinger and thumb.. Moved the pin a bit on the next ball and no problemo..
