90 degree axis release - layout questions

My natural release is 90 degrees of axis rotation.  Typically works well on medium and drier lanes ans struggles when the oil is heavier.  Just wondering if there are any layout patterns that work better than others for someone with this type of release, or certain layouts that I should stay away from.

Most of the time, you need to use stronger or earlier rolling pin placements. Since your natural release makes the ball push further, you need the layout to make your ball roll lose axis rotation down lane, or your ball would never hook. Usually if you need a medium flaring layout, 2 inch pin to pap is better than 5 inches for symmetrical cored bowling balls for a release like yours. Do you have any idea of how much tilt you have? Ever try pin on axis layouts?

 I'm not sure a low flare layout (pin on axis) is recommended for heavy oil.  I agree that you would want to look for early rolling layouts to encourage roll.  I would recommend an aggressive coverstock (material and finish... Maybe 360 or 500 grit), and a ball with a strong mass bias and strong core.  This will allow for an early rolling layout to compliment the coverstock.  With this type of ball, a 3.5 " to 4" pin placement (relative to PAP), will create the most flare and hook potential.

I think Strapper^2 nailed it. I wrote my post without addressing the fact you asked about heavier volumes, my bad about that. Remember surface is always the most important factor in ball motion. Don't be afraid to go into the really low grit regions. If you have a lower rpm release, I'd possibly keep 1 ball at 360 or 180.

I am about 60 to 70 degrees.

 

I typically generate very sharp backends.  If I use pins 5 or more inches out I need to be careful about getting REALLY sharp backends.

 

Pins 3 3/8 to 4 1/4 work for me, mass bias kicked out slightly and weightholes on pap all seem to still get me the backend most people wish for but now I have some control.

 

Pins below my ring finger, modified revs leverage like 4 X 4 but down and pin to pap of 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 with weightholes 2 inches past the PAP have worked for me also.

 

Summary is usually stronger pins or pin downs if farther from pap decrease the sharpness of my backend and keep the ball from pushing past the breakpoint....and then making a sharp right turn!

Thanks for the advice.  I'm working on getting better at changing releases, but it is a long work in progress. 

 

I just bought a almost-new Nano Pearl that if I decide to keep it, I'll have to have the span lengthened in order to use it (span was supposed to be same as mine, but the seller's measurement wasn't very accurate). The pin is just above the ring finger, MB slightly kicked out about 1" from the thumb, and a shallow hole about on my PAP or just barely slightly below.  My PAP is 4 1/2 over x 1/4 up.  Would this layout work for my style of release, and what kind of reaction would I probably see?  I don't want to change the span if this layout won't do much for me, in which case I'll just resell it.

2 things I see here...first surface is generally going to dictate the ball slowing down more than any layout with how the ball reacts or responds to friction.

Also you can't suggest layouts without knowing a bowler's rev rate. The higher the rev rate the farther from PAP you need to stay to eliminate overflaring....
