Not sure if this goes here. Putting some new grips in a ball. What type and brand of glue do I use? I assume it's not super glue because the holes cleaned up pretty easy after removing the old grips.
Thanks
Dick

I use super glue. I prefer the gel, but 'normal' super glue works just as well.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Superglue it is.

I used to use Super Glue Gel, but when I tried it on some Turbo Ice Grips, it wouldn't work and they wouldn't stay glued in, so I bought some Turbo Glue in small capsules called "Bullets" to use on the Ice Grips and use it on regular grips also now. And yes, with the Turbo Glue in the "Bullets", the holes clean up better and easier than super glue does.

I use Loctite Super Glue Gel that I buy from Lowe's or WalMArt. It's in a funky triangular shaped container with blue grippers on the side to help dispense the glue. Works very well and at $2.38 for a container it's a little expensive but it works great.
Brickguy....you need to wipe the outside of the Ice grips down with acetone prior to gluing them....makes any adhesive work better on them. Turbo doesn't tell you this of course but it works.

Thanks for the tip Doug. My driller had a hand full of the Turbo Grip Glue Bullets (10 in fact) and he gave them to me for $1 each so I am set for a while, but will still use your tip anyhow. I do like the Turbo Glue when it comes to removing the grips from the hole as it seems to leave the holes smoother when the grip is removed.
Doug's tip is a good tip for those that don't have Turbo Glue.

Superglue works fine...IF..you only put a small drop on each side of insert.
If you put it all the way around...not so neat!
Easy in...easy out to change...not much mess.

A pro shop in Florida told me about the acetone when I couldn't get them to stick. Was a pain at first because I really like the feel. However, I use Loctite Super Glue Bottle from Target. Comes in a clog free bottle and works well on all inserts. I also like the fact that it really doesn't clog. A quick wipe of the tip and I place the top back on. Much cleaner than dealing with that Krazy Glue pin.
-
I also use the regular Loc-Tite Super Glue. For finger grips, I buy the bottle that comes with a brush applicator. That makes it really easy to get the glue exactly where you want it. -- JohnP

Here is what I use and I get for a local pro shop of mine,

We use the 30wt and it is alot better bang for the buck than buying super glue or anything else! One bottle lasts a long time so, you cant beat it for $9 a bottle. I usually get at least 3 bottles at a time so, it is discounted to 7.39 a bottle.
I use the stuff becasue I work on guitars and I use the stuff all the time for that. I found it is a GREAT insert glue at a great price also!

Quik Tite- Lock Tite seems to be the real winner. It is the only glue I am aware of that adheres the exactated slugs in the ball (custom slugs). Proshops like to use epoxy or quick plug and just shoot it down into the bottom. Much safer, but Quick-tite will adhere. Good stuff.

LuckyLefty, it doesn't work on Turbo Ice Grips unless you do what Doug Sterner said.
For you others that have mentioned Loctite, I have found Loctite to be far superior to Super Glue and it is my preference in super glues, but sometimes the store I go to doesn't have it and I buy the super glue brand then. However since I obtained the Turbo Glue Bullets I mentioned in another post above, I am going to stick to the Bullets as I really like it when you can remove an insert from the finger hole easier and cleaner.

Turbo does recommend using acetone, of course their not going to tell you that it will make other brands work too. They had to tell everybody the acetone when they changed chemical formulas for their grip and refused to admit to it around August last year. They made a press release about changing chemical formulas around February. The problem was/is that even the turbo super glue "which on the actual label for company that makes it says something like "industrial use only" wontwork on the grips without acetone.

If the Turbo Glue Bullets I use are a different glue than you mentioned, then you may be right, but if it is the same glue as what you mentioned, then you are wrong in that statement as I glue my Ice Grips straight out of the package with the Turbo Glue Bullets and it holds without fail.

I like to use the Loctite Gel superglue that comes in a little gray and blue bottle that you squeeze on the sides. Its doesn't run all over the place like regular glue does and you have some working time with this as well.
-
I just finished 4 sets of inserts using the Loctite Gel and it has made a believer of me ! The other super glues are out, it's the easiest to use I have found, clean and won't run out to fast. Can't say as to be bottle, new to me and a bit strange to use, but the results are super...Doug, Storm4ever, you've got a convert !
Thanks for the info....
