What causes this? (thumb blister question)

Hey all, I have a guy on my team that when he bowls several games for a couple days in a row develops a blister on the knuckle side of his thumb almost on the middle but actually a little to the left.  Hopefully you can picture what i am saying.  Is this caused by him squeezing the ball and therefore the left side of his thumb knuckle would hit the back of the thumbhole and also maybe his pitch is wrong and he needs 0 pitch or forward.  Maybe he squeezes the ball because he has reverse pitch.  Anyone have any thoughts to help him out?

Yea thats deffinitly squeezing. Sounds like to to me anyways.

Ike, you did a good job of describing many of the reasons why he could have the blister problem.  Any one of the causes you mentioned might correct problem.  Many people do this without really knowing that they are.  Have him try putting slight pressure with his thumb nail against the hole.  This will straighten out the thumb.  You might have to us some tape to tighten the thumb because many people that squeeze the ball end up having to big of a thumb hole to allow them to get out of it.  Hope you can understand this.

Nice job Dale.  

Ike, could be a number of things.  Span, hole size, hole shape, pitch, bevel and many combinations of these will cause your friends problem.  Just needs to get his grip checked by a good ball driller.

For whatever reason, he is squeezing/bending his thumb inside the hole.  Could just be too big, his hand my have shrunk a little due to cold weather, weight loss, diet.....

thanks for the help guys.  He knows he squeezes the ball but not sure if he wants to change that right now.  He actually bowls pretty decent even though he squeezes.  He actually ran the front 8 today, 10 pin whiffed it then strike 9/ for a 258 so I don't know if i should talk him in to changing or not.  I told him to go to his pro shop and use the fitting ball to try different pitches.
