I've had this on a heavy oil ball for years, a Columbia 300 Reaction Roll. But last night I took an old 15-year-old AMF Bull Whip that I'd never been able to properly use, and plugged and redrilled it with this layout.
I may have finally found my late-in-a-block ball. This ball really tames out the transitions downlane but still allows the ball to drive nicely once it gets to the pins. Playing direct when the lanes are dry is sometimes 10-pin city for me, but this ball seemed to fix the problem.
It could be a function of a tame-by-today's-standards coverstock, or the drilling or a combination of the two, but if you've got an old ball lying around, give it a shot.
