What drilling would you suggest?
« on: July 08, 2003, 07:25:49 AM »
I tried posting this on the Brunswick forum, but still have yet to get a response. So I figured I would try here.

I just acquired a Brunswick Danger Zone2 Carbide. I hate BRUNSWICK..but thought I would give this ball a try. I was considering your normal 3 3/8x3 3/8s for a high flare drilling. HOWEVER, I am open to suggestions.

I currently have a Track Thrash that gets down the lane well, with an arcing backend. What I want out of this ball is something to use when the Thrash is just not strong enough. I know...the above layout should be alot stronger. I want some decent length, but I do not really want a grab and snap kind of hook/reaction.

thanks

Since this is such an unknown ---
I looked in bowling ball reviews and couldn't find th eone you said, but found this one: Danger Zone International 2
(http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=1862)

Since their description of the cover is so vague, it's hard to offer concrete advice. The core seems not too far from yours. Assuming the cover is slightly to much more aggressive, I'd use a similar drilling to your Thrash, but I'd suggest a slightly longer (.5 - 1") pin distance (to PAP). Since a very strong cover can overwhelm a core, this is just a wild guess.

The point of info you need to know is how strong the cover is compared to the Thrash. Until you have some idea, it's anyone's guess.

charlest,
The cover is a dull particle. It really does not say if it is high load or low load, but if I leave the Thrash in box condition and this ball in box condition, it should be stronger. I actually considered using the same layout.
On your suggestion, if I put the pin an extra 1/2-1 inch away from pap, that would make the ball a go a bit longer, BUT the coverstock could take over from there, correct?
So of the two...the layout on the thrash would more than likely hook up slightly sooner than the one you suggested? This may be a toss of the coin, huh?
