I'm thinking of trying thumb slugs in the next balls I drill and am wondering what's the best glue to use. Also if there's any tips to make it go smoother. I did a search but couldn't find anything in the last 30 days. Thanks

Loctite super glue control Gel. Not really cheap, but works very well and wont let go when you do a hot water soak.

I use the 5 to 15 second curing super glue gel. I get it at a hobby shop for about $7.00 for a 2 ounce bottle. Works great on finger inserts also.

A tad off topic, but makes sure you really get the glue in there. I had a ball (Raw Hammer Doom) that was drilled at the proshop, and after throwing it for oh about 15 games, the thumb slug literally popped out. I had never seen anything like it.
I threw it, and was like wow that felt odd...it came back...and the slug was hanging half way out.

I never cared for the fast cure, but I'm old and slow. Nothing wrong with it, just not for me.
Sounds like the guy didn't get the glue either down enough or didn't rough up the slug so it would hold better. JMO.

azguy, Since you dont like the fast cure what is it that you use? I am also looking to get something recommended for glueing slugs and inserts, even if it's different stuff for each.

I use the LocTite for both. They have a nice long tip on the one I use. I tried the gel, but I don't care for it. Nothing wrong with it, many like it, just not me.
It's not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. I usually get it at Wal Mart but Lowes has the larger bottle and I like that one better. The cap snaps nice and tight and never had a problem with 'gunking tips' or a mess.

Use whatever super glue thinkness you want. Then use the drill press to press the slug in. Then when you drill the thumb hole, the heat from drilling helps the glue cure faster.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions.

I scrape the slugs with a file to rough them up so the super glue has more surface area to bond to...I also use the drill press with another slug to push the slug in.
-
I rasp the slugs and use 5 minute epoxy.
