Fingertip pitch/span and finger pressure Question
« on: August 03, 2007, 03:33:39 AM »
I have been noticing that when I hold the ball and release it.
All the pressure is just on the middle finger. The ring finger just
doesnt feel like its doing anything.

It feels like I'm holding the ball with just my thumb and middle finger.
And my middle finger is starting to feel sore/strained.

Is this do to the finger pitches or is it the span between thumb and ring finger
too short?

I would think I should feel the pressure against the fingers more evenly.

When you put your thumb in the ball and lay your fingers across the finger holes, does the first crease in the middle finger lay closer to the edge than for the ring finger?  If the middle finger span is longer than the ring finger's, I can see how you'd grip more with that finger.  Maybe just lengthening the RF or shortening the MF to more equally distribute the weight.

Try squeezing the ball with your hand in all the holes. You should feel equal pressure on both your middle and ring finger. If you feel less pressure on your ring you might have to increase the span on that hole. My driller did this to check my spans.

Update:
Went to the proshop and got my grip checked out.
The problem turns out to be the lateral pitch.

My midddle finger angles in toward the bridge alot.
and it was putting a lot of lateral pressure against
the side of my finger toward tip(bridge  side) when I held the ball.

I never really noticed it before, because the pressure felt
like it was more on the pad of the finger. But the flexability
of my finger has changed so I've started noticing it more too.

It was all most kind of locking my finger in the hole. that might be why I've been feeling like I'm pulling the ball more, the finger is not coming out clean.

So going to change from <1/4 lateral to 1/8 or 0 lateral pitch cant remember which now.
Thanks for the help!

Update to the update-
Its 0 lateral pitch on the middle finger. It Made a big difference!feels much better. Ball is coming of alot cleaner, get a few more revs too.
