4 ball arsenal layout help

I've never really had more than one ball and a spare ball before so I'm trying to plan my new balls around having 4 balls total including my plastic.

what layouts do you guys recommend for an arsenal like that?

answers can be sort of generic, I'm just looking for some basics of how a arsenal this size could work together and not overlap so much that I only ever use one ball.

Wow, that depends so much on where you're planning to bowl. One league shot, several houses, maybe an occassional tournament? Also the layouts would depend on your bowling style, ball speed, revs axis rotation, tilt, etc. For just the THS league shot, I would go with a pearl resin, solid resin & maybe a medium load particle ball for a few changing conditions. Maybe have the pro shop operator watch you before determining layouts.

yeah my stats/style are in my profile. and I bowl in a couple different houses casually so its just various THS sometimes more shot than other times.

my favorite type of shot is first or second arrow and hook into the pocket but I can move deeper and get my storm ace to turn the corner if needed. with my x-factor ace drilled leverage with a weight hole I almost always have to play deeper than I would like.

my previous ball was a weaker pearl with a 5 inch pin that I liked the reaction most of time a lot more. but sometimes it wasnt enough.

my ace has some pretty nice chunks out of it and I have a triple extreme I got at the same time as my ace but never had drilled and I'm looking at getting a couple new pearl balls so that I have a decent amount of variety.

revolutions 2 recommends a dull ball with 2 1/4 to 3 3/8 pin and a pearl ball with 3 3/8 to to 4 1/2 pin and a weaker pearl ball with 4 1/2 to 5 5/8 pin and a plastic ball

I was just curious what other people would recommend as far as a starting point for layouts for heavy/med/light oil

You may still use one ball 90% of the time, if the house where you bowl is semi-consistent with its maintenance and oiling schedule. It may be medium oil, medium-light or medium-heavy.

Typical arsenals:

Lanemasters: Hornet, Buzz, Sting
Roto-Grip: Venus, Mystic, Odyssey
Brunswick: Avalanche pearl, Sidewinder, Wizard
AMF: Orbit Extreme pearl, Radar, NightHawk
Ebonite: Bash, Total NV, Gambreaker
Vivionary: Ogre SS, Ogre Pearl, Immortal Solid
Hammer: Vibe, Doom, Anger

I guess I wasn't very clear on my question. I'm within about 10-15 minutes of 4 or maybe more bowling centers and I travel a few times a year also. I want to have 3 balls and a plastic ball that will get me by on almost anything and introduce me to having more than a one ball arsenal. I was wondering specifically about how people drill their balls different from one another for different conditions.

do people get 3 different balls and drill them all the same way or are there drillings that help specifically in say a heavy oil ball that you wouldnt want to use in a medium or dry ball.

I've been bowling off and on for 8 years and I've read Revolutions 2 a couple times. So I understand some of this stuff but I'm curious to see what other people use and recommend.

and deadbait seriously your profile says you have been expirimenting on bowling ball drillings for almost 50 years, your serious conclusion is "just drill anything. Doesn't make any difference"

yea Dead was just being sarcastic against lefty's of corse. IMO drill a heavy oil ball(dull cover as well) pin under to rev a bit early and get through the slop. Then just take your pick of any number of high performance or mid performance balls that are skid flip or drill it strong, As for the 3rd ball get something that is made to go long or just take and old ball you have and alter the surface and or redrill to go long.

 That should be generic enough but I imagine you can cover a wide range of patterns with that

left handed :horizon pearl pin 1.5-2 have the pin between the fingers underneath the bridge so good ball retains energy on the back and kills pin

My guess if you are not planning to travel to various tournaments and you want to try to expand your arsenal with out really diminishing your wallet, You can try the Planet series balls (Saturn (Early), Neptune(long), Venus(mid). You get different surfaces and a chance to create different shapes. And they will give you alot of Bang for your Buck.

Layouts-  Depends on how you throw the ball.  

If you can get away with a pin down (in bridge)layout for the Saturn, that would be preferable. It will give you an early- smooth arcing reaction, easier to control. If not place the pin below the ring and swing the cg about 45 degrees.

For the venus- we want to get more midlane reaction from this ball to enable, so what you should do is put the pin next to the ring finger and stack the cg. This layout should allow for ample midlane motion.

Finally, for the neptune- Place the pin up above the fingers (depending how long you want the ball to go, you can go above ring, above the bridge, or above middle finger.)  and keep the cg below the ring ring finger.  

Remember you can and should play with surfaces to fine-tune the reactions to fit your game.
