I don't get it? pls. drillers explain?

The two perpendicular lines going off the track will find a bowlers PAP? How? Sorry, but it's my first time seeing this video.....

In the past when I had access to the shop, I've always used an armadillo. Or these days, my spinner to find my axis. Then use a pro sect if ever I can get my hands on one, or go to my current PSO....

Anyway, just curious about this method....

The method is very reliable. The armadillo is just a faster way, but you still need to trace your highest oil track.

I was curious a few years ago and compared the two methods, and when done correctly the PAP was the same.

The method is quick and dirty, always verify with a piece of tape after.

Your PAP is like the North pole on a globe, your initial oil track (the first oil ring) on the ball is like a latitude line on a globe.

When you draw the two perpendicular lines on the ball , those are like the longitude lines drawn on the globe and they cross each other at the pole (your axis).

Are you a teacher? You've always got these great explanatory aids. (no joking here)

Nope no teacher.

If we want another down and dirty way. You can use a tailors tape, that's the way I was show back when I first started.

Just mark your track, then measure across the ball to track on the other side, find the halfway point and make a line. Turn the ball a quarter turn and do it again, where the lines crossed was your pap. put a piece of tape on it and check.

(its like measuring to find your tilt, except your measuring on the positive side of the track)

I use an Armadillo but Nick lost me on the perpendicular part...could not see the tracing of the lines using the track.

With the Pro Sect you can draw perpendicular lines from any given point on the track. The point where they intersect should be very close.  If you're using the armadillo no perpendicular lines are needed.

As Nick said, mark that spot with a small piece of white thumb tape, then stand behind the bowler and have him throw some shots with his normal release.  If the tape doesn't show a tight spiral off his hand then move it slightly and have the bowler roll it again until the tape forms that tight spiral.  That's an accurate PAP.

From there measure over from your grip centerline to the spot (example 5" over) and then up or down from the midline of your grip for the vertical measurement (example 1" up or down).  Those are your PAP coordinates.

just what does the "release" pap show?   Nothing!!!!   The "roll" pap is the game changer.

bullred,

One becomes the other.  How you release the ball determines how it rolls and where it tracks.  The ball doesn't have a mind of it's own.  Contrary to what some people think, it merely responds to what the bowler does to it.

The release PAP is used to set the pin to PAP distance for the layout, which determines the core orientation in relation to the track and the percentage of the flare potential that is realized.  --  JohnP
