Thumb slug
«

I've got a NIB Paradigm coming and I want to put in a thumb slug. I have not done it in awhile (went back to using them), so I need a refresher on it. BTW, I do drill fingers first.
What do I do?
My span is 4 7/16 - 4 7/16.

I couldn't remember if you compensate for the edge of the thumb hole or not. Like I said, I haven't drilled a slug out in a awhile. Do I drill the slug with the same pitch as my thumb should be, or drill it 0 and then drill my thumb 1/4 reverse?

Drill the slug the same pitch as your thumb.

So I arc the lines for the thumb, drill the 1 1/4 then drill out to my thumb size and cut down slug?
Am I missing something here? To me it would seem like I would be lengthening the span just to hit the slug smoothly.
I read something about using 5 min Epoxy? What brand?

I would drill the finger holes and then re-measure the line for the normal thumb hole.
Set your pitches and line up your thumb hole bit to that line then replace the bit with the slug size bit and drill for the slug. This will insure that when the thumb hole is drilled it is centered in the slug.
Glue and insert the slug. Cut the slug down. Set your pitches, re-measure and Re-draw the line for the thumb hole across the slug and then line up and drill the thumb hole.
