Out of a drilling that's 90x5x10?

I slapped a drilling on my NIB Vendetta I've been sitting on, and this put the Pin 1 inch below my fingers, and CG 1 inch above my thumb. It's a very serious control ball, and just what I've needed for the lane conditions I've been on.

Buuut, on other balls, what do you think would happen should the Pin - Pap length is decreased? I've got a Thing Lives that I'm thinking of drilling, but its Pin/CG are right next to each other. Trying to get some ideas for its layout.

The drilling you just described doesn't sound like a 90x5x10. Maybe a 90x5x65? 90x5x10 would put the pin way up, not below your fingers.

+1. Depending on your PAP. For most, that would stand the pin up almost right beside the VAL.

Also, with the pin/cg so close, you might want to let us know what the top weight is on it.

Personally, with me being 4-3/4x1/2^, *x*x10 would put the pin about 2.5 inches above my fingers. So, unless your vertical coordinates are like 3inches down, doesn't sound right.

Took it back in and remeasured. Had "help" doing the angles, and after re-reading Mo-Rich's, found out the "help," put me backwards. Anyway, it's 90x5x62. I just need to get a pro sect at my house and do layouts/angles myself...

Top weight on the Thing Lives is 2.64.

That's much better lol.  90* 5" 62*, max length with smooth and very controllable backend motion.

Yeah... I was going off of what someone was telling me, and I ended up measuring the wrong line. Don't ask me how they thought that, I'll no longer be speaking with that person about layouts. Even printed the Dual Angle pages to keep for when I go to drill again.

Self teaching is not exactly the easiest of experiences.

Anyway, any thoughts on what layout to fit to the Thing Lives? 350 RPM, not sure about my tilt, medium-high speed.

Knowing things like your tilt helps too as it also plays a part in choosing correct layouts, as does lane conditions you are bowling on.  This "help" you speak of, does he/she run a pro shop?  If not, my best advice to to go to your pro shop so they can watch you bowl some and come so a sound conclusion on what layout and more importantly surface to use with it.

No, the helper doesn't work in a pro shop. And the problem with the pro shop is, they're old school. Still on the 4x4. I got shown how to drill and lay things out like that, so anything I buy I can drill, and I'm teaching myself how to do the dual angle. We don't have an armadillo or anything to measure the tilt, either.

It's a center that doesn't see any serious bowlers for the most part, so not a lot is put into the pro shop. And the person running it use to be in the PBA, so he knows his stuff, he just doesn't do the dual angle.

What is your span? With such a short pin, and that top weight, you are most likely going to end up with the pin below the fingers. The Thing Lives has a Soaker cover, which is strong, and with the RG of 2.50 and a diff of .060, it's going to flare a lot if you put a strong pin on it. What kind of reaction are you looking for?

My span is 4.25", and I really am looking to make this thing something of a beast on Heavy or Medium-Heavy.

It sounds terrible, but having something that hooks a lot screws most of the people up on my league that don't bowl with me. Makes them think it's dry, and is kind of intimidating to the people with little knowledge. I don't know how or why, it's just how people react.

Plus it helps when I go to different houses that are either newer lanes, or more oil.
