How much do I lengthen the span
« on: February 02, 2006, 05:29:54 AM »
I was thinking about experimenting with reverse pitch in my thumb.  I'm pretty sure you have to also increase the span when you add reverse but I am not sure how much.  Please tell me if I am correct and, if so, what is the ratio?

What are your span and pitches now, and how much reverse do you want to go to?

I have MF 4 3/8, RF 4 7/16.  Fingers away 1/4 and thumb is 0 reverse and 1/8 away.  I was just going to experiment with some older stuff see if I gained anything from it.  I was planning on going up in 1/8 or 1/4 increments.  I do tend to be late out of the ball frequently and thought it might help.

Try 1/8 reverse without changing the spans.  --  JohnP

The "length" of your span IS the "length" of your span! This measurement has nothing to do with pitches. Pitch is determined by the shape and flexibility of your hand and fingers. The correct pitch allows you to retain a solid grip and still get a clean release without crimping your thumb or getting blisters on your fingers and thumb. If your driller cannot accomplish this, you need to find someone who can.
