Three things to consider with pin placement:
1. Pin to PAP distance determines flare potential - 3-3/8" for max flare (with today's low rg core and high rev rates this is usually too much), 5" usually provides the strongest reaction for high rev bowlers. Moving closer than 3-3/8" or further than 3-3/8" decreases flare potential.
2. Pin Height - If even with the grips is the control variable, above the grips provides later roll, below the grips provides earlier roll.
3. Pin buffer - the distance from the Perpendicular Axis Line, determines angularity of the ball motion: the closer to the PAL, the stronger the backend reaction.
