Opinions needed: Will this drill work?
« on: February 11, 2008, 04:49:05 PM »
Just got an Ebonite Matrix Conquest, 16-lb with 3.34 oz. top weight, and a 2.5-inch pin. I'm trying to drill this ball to work on the drier side of medium.

I want to drill it pin over MIDDLE finger, or over the bridge but kind of leaning to the middle finger, and the "BOMB" marker directly under the thumb.

Doing this will put the CG on the track side of the middle finger, about a half-inch out.

Here are my questions:

1) Is the reaction I'll get out of this drilling likely to do what I want, or am I courting disaster?

2) How hard will the statics be to get legal?

3) Will I need a weight hole, and if so, where?

Thanks,
Jess

It's already considered a light oil ball, don't be afraid to shift the MB to a stronger location and thereby avoiding the negative CG location.

Forgot to mention the important stuff: PAP of 4 over 3/8 up, tweener, mid-tracker (even with the 4 inch PAP).

J-Mac, I've heard people call the Conquest a light oil ball but I have doubts based on two things: bowlingballreviews.com reviews say otherwise, and the ball arrived with a different surface prep than I was expecting. I was expecting something with a gemstone finish to it but this ball looks to be somewhere between 1500-2000 and almost matte.

Also, I already have trouble keeping a ball from hooking too much on this particular shot (i.e., the league shot I see every week). Plus, just about every MB ball I have has the MB at 45-70 degrees, so I was just looking to try something new.

Basically, I want to make sure (a) the statics are going to be OK and (b) I'm not going to run the risk of clipping holes with this drill pattern. Thoughts?
