Who Has The Same Ball, But Different Layouts?

I was just wondering how many out there have the same ball in their line up, but with different drill patterns to them?. I had a look at Jeff Carter's arsenal and I saw sometimes 3 of the same ball, but then again he is a bit different then most of us.

Do you ever use both layouts in the same set? Or only when you happen to see different oil patterns?
If one layout is more to your liking, do you find yourself over using this layout over the other?
Have you ever found one type of ball that was "really" different between the two layouts?

I have a few examples of 2x or 3x equipment with different drills and surfaces.
When I run across a deal on a ball that has proven to be one of my favorites, I will pick up a second one to try a different layout and surface.

My two local houses are both THS shots on synthetics. The shot does not change too much, so two balls with different surfaces is often all it takes to stay in the groove. That said, most of the time, one ball will get the job done with minor changes.

I bowled with Clint at a tourney when he carried in 5 two-ball totes stuffed with Robo Rules. It was the first time I had met Clint. I thought he was completely nuts. Now, after talking with him on a few occasions, I KNOW he is completely nuts!

Hope that arm gets healed up soon!

For those of you that do not know Clint, he is definitely one of the good guys. You won't run into a nicer guy.

If you like a particular ball, why wouldn't you have 2 or more of them..?

Like everyone is saying, either have different layouts, which will give you different entry angles, with one carrying better than the other on certain conditions and visa versa.

Or, have the same layout with different surface grits, at least 1 dull and 1 shiny. Either way or if not both, this is the way to go. =:^D

ive got 3 gamebreaks drilled right now  with a 4th getting drilled this week

gamebreaker 1  pin over bridge mb at 3 inches from midline  polished

gamebreaker  2  label  with 2000 finish

gamebreaker 3 pin axis  with 5 mintes in lustre king then another 5 minutes on the other side then beans secret sauce   its like a mirror

gamebreaker 4  will either be rico or pin under ring finger mb at 2.5 inches from midline

One of my fav buzzsaws is the enriched uranium..have 4..pin under c g out, short pin , 1.30, long pin over ring cg out, and finally a stacked...all have different reactions..if you love a ball, why not drill another rather than invest in another new ball that may or not may not work for you...also, you can play around with the surface to give you even more options...

Lets see, I have 3 Risings all drilled different. All three of the layouts. Then I have two deltas, bot with different layouts. Then I will end up having two Machines with two completely different layouts. The cover can be changed per ball to help bring the complet reaction you wanted out. However you will find guys will do this because a simple layout change on a cover they find easy to control and understand will make a move easier to know when to go to it. Yet normally same ball, same cover finish, different layout. this will and give you that say slight little more pull down the lane when say the earlier drilled one is just rolling up slightly to much. This can give you the reaction you need without moving your feet and getting into a over/under are or into playing a area you are not use to or able to play consistent.

For me with the Risings it works out where I start with the suggested 1 layout. !hen it starts to roll up to much. I switch to the Pin up that gives me the same length but a smoother read on the back on the same line. When that is to much, I go to the trick layout that will roll real early but do just that roll. It will not flip hard so when I get on lanes with screaming backends it helps calm them down and give me a rico like reaction.

The other way of doing this is with say something like two balls where the only thing different is the cover. Storm has some good examples for this. Say you have a jolt particle, a solid reactive jolt and the pearl. You keep the covers different and the layouts the same. This gives you a layout you understand and you let the cover make up how the ball will react. This was is easier to get the balls to fall in line because of how strong the covers are today. However a very versatile ball can give you a world of reactions with layout and/or just a simple cover change.

I have two Mystics, one drilled pin under bridge, 4-1/2" from PAP with the CG at 45 degrees and the other (will pick up today or tomorrow) drilled pin over ring, 5" from PAP with the CG at 45 degrees.  Intially, I'll keep OOB finish on both, but I need to throw the pin up one and see if I want a surface change.
