Post by: bigfish on September 18, 2016, 07:27:14 PM
So I am having some wrist pain. I am right handed and the wrist hurts on the right side right where the ulna meets the wrist. I have a relaxed fringed tip with the following pitches middle finger 3/8 left and 1/2 away ring finger 3/8 right and 5/8 away thum is 1/8 forward and 1/4 left. Let me know what you guys think I can do to eliminate the wrist pain.

You know what to do as do we all, when this happens: see a doctor. to learn what is actually wrong. Once you know what is wrong, you can begin to trace back to what is causing the pain.

Unless your driller is a physical therapist or trained in the science of your bones, tenons, ligaments and muscles, he can't truly help. All he can do is what many car mechanics do: suggest changes one by one until he and you luckily find a cure. You need more than luck here. You need to know what is actually hurting you.

It could be spans, it could be pitches or some combination. Since your driller screwed up to begin with (unless you are now doing something very wrong), I'd find another pro shop which is considered skilled in fitting hands to balls.

In addition to above, perhaps things fit very well but the bowler has done something different to cause the pain.
No harm in applying ice to the area while you wait to see a doctor.

I had gradual growing wrist pain, used a brace for a while which helped, but ended up at Dr. turns out I had worn out the cartilage in my wrist, had a fusion surgery 5 months ago, back at it with no wrist pain, but grip strength is not all the way back (and might not get it all back)
Seek Professional help from a DR, not internet advice.....

Now you have 3 experienced people telling you to see a doctor.
Unless you don't care if you ever bowl again or not, do it.  It may be something trivial or it could be something nasty and insidious. Go ahead, roll the dice and see what happens ...

I have a few customers that experience wrist pain when bowling.  I agree, seeing a doctor is the best solution but if you want to play with you grip try Bill Halls Tri-Grip.  This grip has worked for my customers and the pain has gone away. Again, seeing a doctor is the best advice but trying this grip may help.

In 2008 I suffered a complete tear of the scaphoid-lunate ligament in my right wrist which required surgery.  2 months wearing a cast over my elbow, then 2 months wearing a forearm cast, pin removal, 3 months to rehab, I have lost 15% of grip strength and flexibility.  All of that because I didn't go to the doctor when I should have, kept bowling even though I had to ice my wrist to reduce swelling after league.  Now I have to deal with arthritic pain as a result of the damage to the joint.

I hope that scares some sense into you.

Trust me, it's not worth it.

but this solution is sheer luck that this devices addresses the problem.
If the op wishes to cast his dice with his future, so be it. The results rest on his head, no one else's.

I might add that you really should see a hand specialist, too.  Not all orthopedic surgeons specialize in everything.  The hand and wrist are remarkably complex and why leave anything else to chance?

True.

I see a different orthopedist for my ankle, for my foot, for my hip, for my hamstring, for my ass!!!!!! (no joke)

And my wife saw a different one for her back.
My back is not yet a problem: Strong back, weak mind.

Told to  - Rest, Ice, wear a brace, return in two weeks.  Stop bowling.

Great advice on the specialist.
Got a lead from a local Physical Therapist who said he was the best around
He worked on a few NBA guys in town, so that was good
He was straight up with me and gave me choices, but said ultimately I would have to have some kind of procedure to fix it.
Did some checking on a few sites and he had the most procedures like mine done and the highest rating.
Make sure you see the right person, has to be an expert when it comes to wrist/hands - extremely complex bone structure in there
