had a guy bring a ball in tonight for a new set of inserts this ball had a really questionable layout the layout was over the vibe emblem and the pin and cg past the val so i asked him how this was legal he said weigh it and well it was legal weight no matter how i weighed it
-
It was probably a blem, and had very very low top wieght. Thats the only thing I can think of. All I know is I bet it rolled like poo.... John

no it was a regular ball and he rolled it really well i didnt know what to think thats why i'm asking if anyone else has ever seen this layout and how would it read legal on the scales the only thing i can think of is if you drew a line for center grip all the way round the ball the cg and pin would almost be on the complete reverse of cenbter grip so it would almost read like a normal ball but hell i don't know i went out and threw it well i couldnt get my thumb in it but it cleared the heads nice and ripped threw the rack

Complete reverse...are you sure? For those specs to come up anywhere close to legal one of the two things would need to happen:
1) Really low top weight...else you would have a ball with too much button weight.
2) The ball would be a pro-pin with a mis-marked CG (seen it, but it's rare).
I've seen someone roll a bottom weighted ball before...seemed o.k. but not something I would be willing to try.

Or a diagram of the ball. How far was the pin and cg from his center grip line?

Hey i throw,
Have been doing this since the days of the urethane blk hammer. Just an extended/modified version of pin axis. Yes, having lower top to start will help bring the ball back to legal but would not recommend this layout for higher track and sometimes lower tilt players (they will tend to roll over the thumb).
I still currently have a few pieces at 6-7 inches away from grip center which for me translates into 1-2 inches past pap and usually like the pin 1-2 above mid line. The track will flare away from fingers and towards thumb causing a pretty stable roll.
I currently have very high tilt plus have lowered my track due to lack of ball speed so this layout actually raises my track some without getting too much of an "over reaction" on the backend as our pieces keep getting stronger and stronger these days. Not a bad reaction at all for the right player.
Hope this helps some...
