Ruckus Feud
By: Bryan Bannach DV8 Regional Staff Member
DV8 describes the Ruckus Feud as a ball that “Featuring the new Class 12 Solid Reactive coverstock wrapped around the Ruckus core, the Ruckus Feud tractions in the oil and revs hard on the backend for the most total hook potential of any DV8 ever on heavy oil lane conditions”
With the release of the original Ruckus I knew DV8 was onto something good with their asymmetric equipment.  I could tell the original Ruckus had the motion I have always wanted out of an asym but it just lacked the ability to handle heavier volumes of oil.  Leaving it as a very special purpose ball for me that didn’t get a ton of use.  Enter the Ruckus Feud…
I choose a layout of 55x5 ½ x45, which is a layout I use on asyms, when I want a more forward hook than a sweeping motion.  This ball has the strength to handle any volume of oil, but it still retains that motion shape that I liked from the original Ruckus.  The Ruckus Feud gets through the heads very cleanly.  It is effortless to get this ball to the spot.  Once it gets to the spot it has still retained a ton of energy to go through the pins.  Unlike the original Ruckus this ball NEEDS oil.  I have to be very conscious of when the volume starts to get depleted because it is then time to put this ball away.
My first time using the Ruckus Feud was on the USBC White 2 pattern, with beefed up volume on a higher friction synthetic surface.  I was able to use the Ruckus Feud for the first 2 and a half games, which was longer than I have EVER been able to stick with a high end asym ball.  I usually have to get out of strong asyms fairly early because they start to leave corner pins for me.  But with the Feud I was able to just keep moving left and it never lost energy until I finally got into 5th arrow and was trying to cover too many boards.  I then switched to the original Ruckus and continued to strike.
My second experience with the Ruckus Feud was on the 45 ft Route 66 Kegel Pattern.  I was able to start with this ball playing fairly square.  But the lane surface was very high friction and after about a game, there was not enough volume to continue using this ball.  Once again, this ball needs some volume up front.  But can handle lower volumes than I usually can with higher end equipment.
The Ruckus Feud is one of the strongest balls I have ever thrown, but it has a unique ability to last longer into blocks for me.  I would HIGHLY recommend this ball to anyone with a medium to low rev rate on a typical house shot.  This ball will allow you to get in with the higher rev players.  I would also recommend this ball to a High Rev player looking for something for higher volumes and longer patterns.

LANE CONDITION

Length:  44' High Street

Volume:  med

Type:  THS

Drilled the Ruckus Feud 45x5x70 (pin below middle finger) with no hole and left the ball at box finish.  I chose this layout because i had it on a Hell Raiser Revenge which has been my go to ball for chasing the shot left on heavy oil house shots but has just had its second cycle in the extractor and third full resurface.  For this quarter,  our scratch league is bowling on 44' high street with an additional squirt of volume in the heads on Anvilane.

The Ruckus Feud starts up early in a very similar spot to the HRR, but can handle being a little deeper in the oil due to a stronger coverstock as well as a more defined response to friction pushing my feet left an additional 3 boards.  What I like most about this ball is that it is strong enough to read the puddle in the middle of the lane, but still has enough continuation on the backend to carry as I move my feet left.  Even playing inside 4th arrow on 44', when I missed left or was a little firm this ball still gripped the lane and I had little worry of the ball squirting through the spot.

Last night I used it all 4 games of league and just chased the oil left, starting with my feet at 26 and crossing just left of 3 arrow while ending up against the ball return going through 22.  With 976 last night, 1036 the week before and 1013 the week before that, I am very happy with the way that this ball has gripped the lanes, while still driving hard through the pins.  I highly recommend drilling a Ruckus Feud if you are looking for a ball to cut through heavy oil while still having energy left for the back end.

COMMENTS

Likes:  I can play inside in the thickest of oils without worrying about the ball squirting down the lane.

Dislikes:  It is meant specifically for heavy oil.  Don't waste your time throwing it on dry lanes

I drilled my Ruckus Feud 60 by 4 5/8 x 40, and tried it on a couple different patterns.

On the house shot, this ball was a monster.  I had to play farther left than I ever have on our house shot.  This ball made a strong move off the dry part of the lane when I missed my target wide, and still dug through the heavy concentration of oil when shots were missed to the inside of the lane.  When I am bowling on a heavier volume house shot, this will definitely be the ball of choice.

On patterns that are 38' and less, the Ruckus Feud is just too much.  In order to get this ball to work on such patterns, one would have to adjust the surface to a smoother finish, and trick the layout to get the ball to lay off in the backend.

This ball is designed for med-length to long patterns with plenty of volume. Use it on that type of pattern, and you will see more hook and backend than any ball you have in your bag.

LANE CONDITION

Length:42ft

Volume:26 units

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

COMMENTS

Likes: Agreed this ball made for heavy oil patterns.  I like that it still gets down the lane for a matte finished ball though. Still very angular on the backend.  This ball smashes the pocket well.  Drives through without a whole lot of deflection.  Definitely carry more corner pins with this ball than any other.  Make sure you keep up with the maintenance with this ball so you keep the original reaction.

Let me start off with this ball is just a beast on the lanes. I just got done with our local Masters tournament which was conducted on the 2010 USBC Masters pattern. I was on a pair with 4 lefties including myself. During qualifying the lanes started to break down. I switched to the Ruckus feud and stayed way right of the rest of them playing 20-10 watching this ball just come off the pattern with such energy was amazing. It goes through the heads like they didn't even exist. Especially for being such a big ball with surface one would think it would hook at your toes. It doesn't!! While the other lefties struggled to get their equipment to tip, this ball was in a league of it's own. Mind you I was never a fan on dull equipment because for me It just didn't roll right. Ever since switching the the DV8 line a while back it has totally changed my mind about dull equipment. I also noticed for those who leave a lot of 7 and 10 pins that this ball was kicking the 7 pin out a lot. I would say in 10 games I may have left 3 7 pins. The carry percentage is off the charts. All while playing the same line. This ball is a must have no doubt about it. It's such a good investment and it will be your ball that  you take out of your bag first every time you hit the lanes. Its performance is outstanding and will make you stand out from the other bowlers.

COMMENTS

Likes: This ball is a complete monster. I was going to do a video for it but I couldnt hit the pocket and gave up.

Dislikes: Doesnt love tons of friction-I have a dude for that

Im a little late to the party on the DV8 equipment so bear with me. Well what to say about this beast. Well if you are looking for something to out hook anything on the market, Well you have found it.If you throw it hard and need something that hooks for you, You found it. To be totally honest this ball is probably 10 boards more than my dude. When I brought the surface up to 2000 from box it was very clean up front and had some better change of direction to it. If you polish this ball watch out b/c it might turn 360 and come back at you. This ball looks like a different ball shiny. Not all balls take surface and perform as well as this one.

Summary: This ball hooks a bunch. Stand left and wheel this ball! Its a ridiculous amount of hook

Likes:A very strong piece, and allowed me to play my A-Game of playing straight up the lane. i was able to get a nice read on the fresh with this ball, and even with a little surface on the ball, around 1000 Abralon, it was still driving strong through the pocket.
