Likes: very clean through the front, strong motion off the wet.  strong carry.  Really enjoyed throwing this ball.  For more details, watch the video where we have a detailed breakdown of the data.

Dislikes: does not like heavy oil.

  Used the ball right out of the box. No surface change or anything. Pin is below the ring finger and the center of gravity is below the pin. 15 lb ball. I throw the ball 17.5 to 18 miles per hour. Great ball is all I can say. Bowled and 6 game tournament and used the ball all day. Shot 632 for the first set and 702 second set. My average is 198. I could play down and in or I could swing it. The one thing I noticed is that if you played a tight line and were swinging it you were bound to leave ten pins. But if you swung it out and let the ball come off the dry part of the lane  it would smash the pocket Everytime. The 5th game I shot 287 and was playing a down and in style playing 15 to 10 and it was smashing the pocket. Year ball would recommend to any body.

The Misfit is so much more than an entry level ball.  While it is listed as the entry level ball for the DV8 brand, this ball performs better than many mid-range balls I have thrown from other companies.  The ball packs an abundance of performance.  The Misfit line is so versatile, and allows for many different drill patterns and surfaces.  I drilled this Misfit up to read the midlane well, and make a controlled move to the pocket.  I got the exact midlane read that I wanted, but the reaction was slightly different.  The motion this ball makes is something to be seen.  I would describe it as controlled, but I would also describe it as angular.  I have never thrown a ball before that makes such an angular move, yet I still feel like I have complete control of the reaction.  Also for being an “entry level” ball the strength of this ball is a surprise. 

 

 

 

Likes: The strength and control of the ball, while still being angular.

My Misfit is drilled Pin 4.5 from my PAP under my bridge.

I drilled this ball with the intent of replacing my Blue Karma with the same layout which I would consider one of my favourite balls ever.

The Misfit is a couple of boards stronger than the Karma with similar length and a slightly stronger change of direction.

To match the shape of my Karma, I took the Misfit down to 2000 to help it read the mid lane and be a little more even at the backend.  The Misfit rolls very evenly, is still clean through the front and makes a very even shape down the lane.  The ball does not quite have the same amount of teeth in carrydown as the Blue Karma, but does exhibit a little more recovery on misses wide.

I find the Orange Misfit to be about 2 boards weaker than my Hell Raiser all due to length and is a ball that allows me to use more parallel angles around the track when I am seeing too much length and backend out of my Too Reckless (favourite Dv8 ball without question).  This ball has given me success outside of first arrow and with hand changes has allowed me to get inside middle arrow and still have enough power to carry the 10 consistently.  I am very happy with my Misfit and feel that it is a necessary reaction shape to have in your bag, especially if you made the unfortunate decision to pass on the Blue Karma

My Misfit is drilled pin under my ring finger 5" from my axis with the CG kicked out and an 1 1/4" hole 3 3/8" from my axis on my VAL. This ball is amazing on carry down when a long house shot gets broken down. It is very predictable and although in the weaker category stores enough energy to continue through the pins and throw pins around like a higher performance ball. With the pin under my fingers on this ball it picks up in the midlane and has a very controlled arc shape to the reaction, and if I throw it right, very rarely, will it ever over react off the dry boards and go throw the face. This ball is amazing when it comes to continuation, and even if it does hit light it stores enough energy to throw pins around to increase your carry percentage.

 

On a shorter Sport pattern: I recently tried this ball at a tournament in which the oil pattern was 37', higher volume and very flat on wood lanes. If you plan on getting this ball for short patterns I highly reccomend a weaker drilling to control where the ball reads as on any short pattern.

 

Compared to a Reckless: Although my Reckless is drilled pin up my Misfit on house shots is stronger and reads the backends more consitently. Where the Reckless was very midlane the misfit is a harder cover so it is able to store more of its energy through the heads and midlanes and save it for an arc motion on the backend with continuation. On sport shots my Reckless is my benchmark ball as it is easy to control but i know when the heads start to burn up i can go to my Misfit and get a similar reaction to where I started with the Reckless without having to make the huge jumps left. These two ball compliment each other very well on sport patterns.

 

Overall: This ball is one of the first out of my bag and reads the lanes very well. It is stronger than most people would think of an entry level ball and will make the turn toward the pins without to much effort. This ball is great for broken down patterns short sport patterns. This is one of the best balls for the price range and works very well for junior bowlers starting to learn to turn the ball or a typical house bowler or even the tournament bowler. It will increase your carry percentage compared to any ball in its price range.
