This core and coverstock combination produces an outstanding all-purpose ball motion and sets the Marauder as the new benchmark ball in the DV8 product line. RG Min: 2.524* | RG Diff: 0.050* | RG Asy: 0.001* *=@ 15 pounds

- Ball Motion Finished with a High Gloss Polish, the Marauder is very clean through the front mid-lane, revving hard on the backend to create a very strong and continuous motion that drives through the pins on medium to light oil lane conditions.

- Reaction Setup The DV8 Marauder can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for bowling balls with symmetric cores.

- Ball Maintenance To reduce oil absorption and remove dirt from the surface of the ball, clean your ball with a cleaner designed for reactive bowling balls.

The Marauder, for me, reacts like a combination of the Reckless and Too Reckless. Very good length with great predictability on the backend. On a typical house shot I am usually 4-6 boards farther right with the Marauder than the Hellraiser Terror as the backend is not as angular as the Terror.

DV8 Marauder

Bowler Stats:
Right handed
PAP: 4 ¾” right
Speed: 18-18.5 mph
Rev Rate:  450 rpm
Axis rotation: 20-45 degrees
Axis Tilt: 15 degrees

Layout:
50* by 5” by 50*

Purpose:
Along with everyone I’ve talked to, I loved the Too Reckless with this same exact layout and thought it was a great medium oil ball. I wanted to drill the Marauder with this same layout to give me just a little more length and overall hook.

Observations:
To get to the point, this is my favorite DV8 ball to date. Those that liked the Too Reckless with LOVE the marauder. I saw a similar midlane read with both balls, with the Marauder skidding just a bit further downlane but having about 2 boards more hook in the backend. The Marauder for me was a solid 2-1 move inside of the Too Reckless for me, with the difference being made up completely on the backend. Hybrid balls are a godsend to me because I really like the versatility of having practically both a solid ball and a pearl ball all in one. Due to this hybrid cover, I can square up to the lane and play straighter and/or closer to the friction and I can use it to really hit on it and loop the lane like a pearl. Hard to get the best of both of those worlds into one ball but DV8 did it. My understanding is that someone asked DV8 to make something equivalent to the Brunswick’s Versa-max and the replay was “We’re going to make a ball better than the Versa-max.” While you’ll have to pry my Versas from my cold dead hands, the Marauder does indeed live up to the hype. The only reason that I’d still give my personal nod to the Versa is because it is a solid symmetric, and nothing puts money in my wallet like a solid symmetric. That being said, in a heads up comparison, I’d say the Marauder is 3 boards stronger overall than the Versa; one board stronger in the midlane and a two stronger on the backend. I’m currently thinking about sanding the surface to 4000 just to enhance that midlane roll that I’m seeing. On Scorpion, I saw a smoother read throughout the midlane, exactly what you need on tougher patterns, from the start when I could square up more and play outside around 5. This ball surprisingly gave me the best look on this pattern from the outside than any other ball I brought with me. To me, that really shows how versatile this ball is even with the polished box finish. As the pattern broke down, moving inside was never a problem. This ball kept slapping out 10s all the way in to 5th arrow. Like every other DV8 ball I’ve thrown, this ball keeps the pins really low to the pin deck which increases carry percentage. No other line in bowling offers a look through the pin deck like DV8.

Final thoughts:
The new Marauder is the new benchmark ball in the DV8 line. For me it picks up just the right amount in the midlane and then offers a strong move to the pocket off of the friction. It’s a great compliment to the Reckless, Too Reckless, and/or the Versa-Max so if you have one of those in your bag and love it, it’s hard to go wrong with the DV8 Marauder.

If you have any questions regarding the Marauder or any other DV8 or Brunswick equipment, don’t hesitate to send me a message. Thanks for reading. Good luck and good bowling!

Bowler stats:
Right Hand
Avg 300 rev rate
Ball speed: 17 mph at breakpoint from CATS program at Kegel Training Center
PAP: 4 5/16 rt, 7/16 up
Axis Rotation: 10-30 degrees
Axis Tilt: 10-45

Ball comparison:
Onyx Vibe Layout 70x3x20 Surface: 4000 polished (OOB)
DV8 Marauder 65x3.5x20 Surface: OOB
Hammer Jet Black Taboo 70x6x35 Surface: 3000 Polished (OOB)

Observation on Typical House Shot
Comparison between Onyx to Marauder:
Start Postion: Feet at 17 board target 7 board at 17’.
Played Onyx straight up with a breakpoint at 42’ @ 7 board leaving ringing 10 pins. Able to swing Onyx to 6 board @ 42’ board breakpoint for better carry.
Tried Marauder on same line, bowl read mid-lane and breakpoint sooner. Made a 3 and 1 move left off of the Onyx. Marauder read break point sooner, 5 board @ 40’ with a smooth movement to the pocket. What I like about the move is how well the ball was continuous thru the pocket and it kept the pins low. Really liked the way the bowl rolls for my style of game.

Comparison between Marauder to Jet Black Taboo.
Played JBT along similar line as the Marauder. Big difference is JBT’s breakpoint was 5 board @43’ and more angular to the pocket. Used both balls for two games throwing them equally during each game and shot 258, 258 without any lane adjustments.

The Marauder is about 3 boards stronger than the Onyx Vibe and carry is a little better. Marauder in my opinion is about as equal to the Jet Black Taboo but that could be due to the fact I drill all my asymmetrical equal with long pins, usually 5-6 inches since I consider myself a stroker and my ball speed matches up with my style. I am very impressed with the ball and I will be honest I used Brunswick a few years ago and the one thing I did not like was once the ball made the move to the pocket it seemed to lose energy and drive. However with the DV8 Marauder, the ball has continuous movement not only off of the breakpoint but thru the pins as well.
One note: During the fill ball of the last game, I just made a 2 and 1 move left with the Marauder just to see how it reacts with more oil in the heads near the center part of the lane. The ball not only recovered from the same breakpoint as described earlier but had energy to still be continuous thru the pins.

The ball is as advertised as a great benchmark ball for the DV8 line.

PAP 5 1/2> 1/2^
Axis Rotation 40 degrees
Axis Tilt 3 degrees
RPM 450
Speed 18.5

The layout I chose for my Marauder is my personal favorite. Pin over bridge with a very small shift and no extra hole. This ball retain axis rotation the best out of the three balls in the advanced line. It is very responsive to friction but because of the hybrid cover, it is also very predictable. This for me is the ball that will be in play at some point on every pattern.

This ball is a great benchmark ball with this layout and surface.  It gets through the heads very clean while still reading the midlane.  When it gets to the breakpoint it makes a strong, but controlled move through the pins.  I love this ball because I can see what it is going to do before it does it.

Likes: The main strength of this ball for me is strength with control.  When I am throwing the Marauder I feel like I have a ball that will be very strong through the pins, but doesn’t have an uncontrollable hook shape.

Dislikes: The one weakness I see with this ball is the OOB Cover Finish.  I think that the high polish makes this ball squirt slightly too much.  But at Rough Buff this ball is amazing!

COMMENTS

Likes: For me this is one of the best benchmark balls in my arsenal. I have used it on patterns from 37 feet to 44 feet with just a little change to the surface.  It allows to stay straighter on the fresh especially sport conditions to give a nice controllable look to the pocket. On the house shot, i can play just about anywhere I want on the lanes except getting too deep it seems to struggle getting back to carry the 10 pin.

Dislikes: Should be good with the drilling and surface changes for short patterns but have not found it yet.

Overall, comparing this ball to a pin above the bridge reckless, for me the Reckless is quicker off the spot and more angular, with maybe a touch more midlane read. Compared to a pin above the bridge Marauder, the pin down is much sooner and actually more angular off the spot than the pin up. Surprisingly the pin up is very smooth and not angular at all, I probably just haven't found the right surface for it yet.  Compared to a misfit, the misfit is much cleaner through the fronts and mids and much quicker off the spot and more angular than either maurader. I can get further left with the misfit I feel like when the pattern breaks down a little and a friction spot develops.

Patterns:  USBC White #2 (41), USBC Red #3 (38)

Balls reviewed:
Marauder #1 45x4.5x45 in box finish
Marauder #2 60x3.5x60 at 2000, hole p3
Marauder #3 45x3.5x45 at 2000, hole p4

I drilled these Marauders with control in mind.  My Terrors are very strong in the backend, so is my Green Misfit and my pin up Too Reckless so I just wanted to drill a couple of benchmark type balls that roll off the spot and keep me out of trouble if the lanes transition poorly.

Marauder #1 was laid out with the intent to handle medium-dry lanes and give me something less jerky than the Green Misfit.  Honestly it doesn't hook as much as I had expected and was too tame down lane with sand.  I polished it back up and it has kept me out of trouble on Red #3 which has played very difficult in our scratch league.  The lane surface is beat up and there is not much hold left with an out of bounds right, however this ball has allowed me to stay nearer the track longer and hold the line while other bowlers have struggled.  This is not my favourite ball, but serves a purpose and fills a gap in my bag.

Marauder #2 has my favourite layout on it and is rolly, but is still a little cleaner and stronger down lane in comparison to my identically drilled Yellow/pink Misfit.  It lets me move left sooner and swing the ball but gives me a smooth read off the dry keeping me out of trouble.  My main concern is that most of the bowlers in my town like to stay right with glossy gear because they like bright colours but know very little about ball reaction and just keep balling down leading to wet/dry lanes and some finicky backends.  This ball helps me even some of that down lane soupiness that has caused me trouble in the past.

Marauder #3 is the house shot killer.  This ball fits right between the other 2 Marauders and is my favourite because it is a little rolly but very even.  It did not cover as many boards or release in the backend as hard as I had hoped, but it does allow me to blend the over/under that I so despise on walls being a low tracker so my carry has been very good with this ball.  It doesn't jump out as an amazing ball reaction but it is consistent and readable which to me is the most important thing to look for in a good bowling ball.  This control/benchmark piece goes everywhere with me.

Likes:  The Marauder is a very even rolling ball that takes well to surface changes.  It is a benchmark ball for medium, medium-light oil that fits just under the Too Reckless that gets through the fronts easy and will rev up with a smooth reaction in the latter half of the lane.  A very safe ball that has a place in everybody's bag.

Dislikes:  silly glossy box finish is too shiny.  I like the way this ball rolls with a little grit

The Marauder for an upper level player is that ball that will get 40 out of 50 games over the course of a week.  This is the ball I will wear a significant track into.  This is a great great piece of equipment.

The Marauder of mine is layed out for significant length with controllable ball reaction downlane.  Without sacrificing angularity.  The ball does as designed and gets through the fronts incredibly well, gives a consistent midlane roll and predicatable backend motion.  Not only that, but it looks great going down the lane.  The ball enters the pocket with a steep entry angle and carry's a good percentage of pocket shots.

What is suprising and most impressive is the ball is consistent.  It's doesn't overhook, underhook or confuse me.  I feel confident that the ball will end up downlane in the right spots if I throw it well.  Again, it has a very consistent and predictable backend ball motion.  This makes it an "A" ball for tougher conditions and a 300 ball for those sitngy house patterns.

This ball would be good for any player with medium revs looking for a ball to work well on most medium oil patterns.  Because of it's ability to get through the fronts effortlessly, it can retain plenty of energy for the crispy dry edge boards to recover and blow the rack up.

This ball is a step down in overall reaction from the Hellraiser Terror and if you need even less reaction, try one of the Misfits in three different color options.

Pap 4> 5/8ths down
Ive drilled 2 of these very similiar and have only used in my sport league. We are bowling on 39ft soule pattern.
first has pin under my ring finger cg just above the thumb with a 7/8ths weight hole 6 3/4ths from the pin on my Val. Left ball box finish
2nd has the pin down dead center under the fingers. Cg is kicked out 1 inch from the center of my grip eith a p3 weight hole. Hit this with 500 pad with 3000 on top of the 500

Ball 2 with surface is great on the fresh and with tighter back ends. Ball 1 is perfect for games 2 on.  It excels when the fronts go away. This ball is very clean with a strong controlled backend.
i would put this about 4-6 weaker for me than the terror.  It is cleaner than the Too Reckless with a sharper back end for me. About 4 stronger for me than my green Misfit.
this is easily my new benchmark ball and by far my favorite. I can see it used on a variety of patterns ftom med to dry.  This ball lives up to the hype..

COMMENTS

Likes: The strong roll that reads the midlane and continues through the pins

Dislikes: None

This ball takes over the Reckless line and is another great ball by DV8. With the hybrid cover, it can read the lane without overhooking. This ball is great for medium oil conditions and is continuous through the pins. The Marauder works well on house or kegel patterns and allows me to keep moving left to chase the oil and open up the lane. It would work as a good bechmark ball and takes well to surface changes. Comparing the Marauder to the Reckless, it is stronger off the spot and is stronger overall. This ball will retain energy and recovers quickly when reaching the spot. I would recommend this ball for any league bowler and tournament bowler. #TonightWeBowl

WOW!!! This is BY FAR the best ball I have ever thrown. I have 2 of these and seem to be using these on all patterns. Such a versatile ball. This will be your benchmark ball. I get a much smoother reaction compared to the Hell raiser terror. Overall, it is about 5 boards less total hooked compared to the terror. If the ball is going too long for you, just hit it with a little bit of Rough buff. This ball has by far been the #1 seller in our 2 shops.

Likes: With the Hybrid coverstock, it is the best of both worlds with the length that you get out of a Pearl, but it has the strong response from the Solid coverstock.

Dislikes: NONE

With the drilling, it allows me to play very straight, and is usually one of the first balls that is out of my bag, because I can get a read off of it, and know that if I need something else, I can get a good midline reaction from it and know if I need stronger, weaker, or I can use it, and most of the time, this is the ball that I use. It allows me to play straight up the boards on fresh conditions, and when they start to breakdown, I can either manipulate the ball with my hand or it allows me to move in and play a little deeper on the lane and still see a nice reaction off of the friction, and carry all 10 pins down.
