Brutal Nightmare vs. Nightmare?
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:36:19 AM »
I'm looking to get a new ball. It was recommended to me that I try the Dv8 Nightmare. I happened to notice that the Brutal Nightmare just came out as well. I'm curious to see which ball people prefer? I only bowl on a typical house shot with the occasional tournament here and there.

I don't think you'll find many unbiased "preferences" yet since the Brutal Nightmare has not yet come out. It's been announced but will be released for sale on Jan. 23rd. so the only "opinions" will be that of staffers who, in general, are hardly unbiased. But, there are always exceptions.

I saw in the video that the brutal is quite a bit "stronger" like 8 or 9 boards in the video.   If u usually bowl ths, the original is probably your best bet...that thats my opinion.  Based on what you say u see in terms of oil, id be looking at the terror.  Good luck!

So far all the DV8's that i have drilled have turned out exactly as expected.  My Nightmare, Terror and Marauder are def my 3 favorite balls.  Can't wait to drill the Brutal.  I think all the companies "hype" up the new releases but its part of the marketing.  As far as Im concerned these DV8's live up to the hype.

Ok, lets get back on track. So for those who have thrown both the Brutal Nightmare, and Nightmare what is the difference and which do you prefer for the THS shot?

Thanks

Ok. I have my Nightmare and Brutal laid out very similar except Nightmare has a longer pin to pap. Nightmare 60x5 1/2x70 and my brutal is 60 x 5 x 70.  The Nightmare for me even with the longer pin, is much smoother than the Brutal.  Its been said that both balls are very clean thru the fronts, but my Brutal is much cleaner.  The big difference in these two balls is downlane.  The brutal is easily without exaggeration 5-6 boards stronger.  Now this was on a sport pattern.  On a THS the downlane difference is probably much more, like what was shown on the DV8 video.
What i have done with the 2 balls is take my Nightmare to 2000 and I use it on the heavy fresh now.  Once things start to open up, the Brutal cant be beat IMO.  I talked a friend in drilling the Brutal.  He hadnt drilled a new ball in a few years and was ready to give up bowling.  Second time out he shoots his first 800 with it.  The guys happier than ever and loves bowling again..  I would without a doubt on THS go with the Brutal.  Im seeing people love both balls on THS but the Brutal can be used a little longer thru the set.
Im going to have my website up very soon with all the DV8 balls with in depth video reviews.
