Initial impressions of terror and marauder
« on: June 27, 2012, 11:26:11 PM »
Got them on my porch yesterday and i drilled one of each today so i'm going to give a little insight on them. The marauder was stronger than i expected. For me with the reckless core i had to drill them stronger to get the reaction i like, but with the new core in these balls you can drill them however you like. I already ordered another one to just put my favorite drilling on it.

As for the terror this ball is special, I know everyone says that about certain balls but i cannot miss far enough right and it never doesn't make it back. To me this ball has the hook potential of the revenge but it has the exact same motion and length as a victory road pearl. I can't compare it to a brunswick ball because it has a motion i have never seen a brunswick ball have. If you have any questions on these feel free to ask. And if you don't know which one to get, i have to say both because they will compliment each other really well.

Do think the Marauder is stronger than the Too Reckless.

Without a doubt. It little earlier and lot bigger move for me. The next one I drill will be weaker pin placement

Dallas,
If you can could you please compare the two to the Versa Max,  if you have any experience with it.  I currently have a Versa and it is my bench mark. I was trying to determine where it might fall with regards to the Terror and Marauder. I m afraid the Versa and Marauder will over lap too much. Thanks

I think they both would be more than the versa the marauder will be longer with more backed in box condition. However with surface on oil the marauder will dig in more than the versa as well so when they open up you could go back to the versa

Dewey, we were told that a certain PBA player went to Billy-O and told him that DV8 needs a ball like a versmax. Billy's response was to make a ball better than a versamax. The intentions were to design a ball with similar shape but cleaner overall (do not want two balls with same reaction coming out of the same plant) or at least that's what Billy told me when we spoke at a local tournament. Depending on the mix of colors in the marauder will also determine how it rolls. The colors of the ball are what have the different surfaces. Yellow is the solid and red is the pearl. I have spoken with a guy that had two of the marauders, one had more yellow than another and he said the more yellow did read the lane sooner. Depending on what you are looking for if you need a cleaner ball more red, something a little earlier more yellow than normal. I believe the balls come out with a lot of red regardless, I have not seen a dominate yellow ball yet. Hope this helps!

Thanks James,
I actually just got a picture of my new Marauder texted to me today, it is in the pro shop waiting. From the picture there seems to be alot of red to the ball. Cant wait to get it drilled.

My Bro has a Versa and I have a Marauder both drilled identically.
The Marauder is true to the DV8 reaction shape and is longer with a little bit more kick at the end.  The Too Reckless is noticeably earlier and forces me about 3 boards left.
The Marauder with factory gloss will be useful on wood, dirt and gravel.  It is that clean.

The Terror reminds me of the Wicked Siege, just more angle at the back.

How would the Terror compare with the new Brunswick Nexxxus pearl? The vids and descriptions make them look very much identical as far as shot shape.

Cubsfan, The Nexxxus f(p+s) makes a little stronger move when reaching friction than the HR Terror. Both of the balls are very clean through the front of the lane, but have a stronger reaction downlane than the previous Brunswick and DV8 balls. The Nexxxus f(p+s) is about 4 boards stronger in the backend than the Nexxus f(p+r). And the Terror is a combination of the HR and HR Revenge in reaction. Both are able to handle medium to heavier oil conditions, and work best when you need a ball that rolls strong in the back part of the lane.

Thanx BrandonH. I'm looking for a long and angular piece as an opposite to my Mission X. You said the Nexxxus makes little stronger move than the HR Terror. By that do you mean a little more angular? I'm not really concerned with covering more boards overall as much as something that kicks hard left at the end of the pattern. I'm not a high rev player and need all the help I can get.

Cubsfan, the Terror will have more angle on the backend. The XXX and Terror are similar but I believe that the Terror has a little more push down lane with a more defined backend reaction.

Cubsfan. With the snap additive in the Nexxxus, it does go sideways more than the Nexxus. And, the Terror has a similar motion of going sideways at the end of the pattern. Either ball is a good choice.

Appreciate the advice guys. Decided to go with the Nexxxus. Planning on picking it up this weekend. Our league starts next week.
