kegel winding road
« on: May 01, 2013, 07:06:01 PM »
I have a tournament this weekend and the pattern is kegel winding road. I never bowled on this pattern before. My equipment is...Terror, Nightmare, Revenge and Storm Manic with a white dot for spare ball. My league avg is 221, med speed, med revs...The Terror I keep in factory shine, Nightmare is at 3000 grit, Revenge is at 2000 and Manic is at 4000. What is the best way to play this pattern? Up the track?
Play the middle? I looked on youtube and couldnt find anything on this pattern.
Thanks

Entering a tournament with a preconceived notion of how to play the lanes/pattern is usually a sure road to disappointment.

Lane surface and lane topography can be a major factor in how the lanes are successfully attacked.  This is why practicing on the shot outside of the center the tournament is held at is rarely the same experience.

A good rule of thumb is the rule of 31. Take length of the pattern, subtract 31 from it and that would be roughly where your breakpoint should be. Topography, lane surface, etc, can change this a little but it gets you in the ball park. In tournaments, it is.huge to have a benchmark ball and it should give you a good idea what direction to go with a ball.

J MAC, Thanks for the help. I wasnt asking an exact location to put the ball down or how my ball was going to hook on this pattern. Just like the Cheetah pattern they say the best rout is closest to the gutter....I was asking about the winding road....not lane topography or practicing the shot at a different house.

Have you been to Kegel's website to do some research on the pattern?

Let me help.

http://www.kegel.net/V3/PatternLibraryPattern.aspx?ID=609

As you can see, it is 39 feet.  By reading the description, the buff area at the end of the pattern in pretty flat.  Rule of thumb will be to start around 7-8 with a ball around 2000-3000 abralon and then migrate inside from there.  Since it is a sport pattern, straighter is greater in the beginning.  Once the lane opens up, then you should be able to migrate in or go to something weaker.
