So I'm coming back from a 3 year bowling hiatus and looking to update my equipment. I've got med speed and revs with a med-high track. I've already grabbed a Pearl Misfit, drilled label leverage, which I've been putting some league games on and am impressed at some of the outside lines it opens up. I am most likely going to participate in a Brunswick sport shot league this summer that includes two Brunswick/DV8 balls that you are required to use for the league (plus a plastic spare ball). You have your choice of one mid-level and one high-level ball and I was trying to find a combination that would both compliment the Misfit I already own and still cover the most bases in the sport league (Patterns are Carmen Salvino, Cheetah, and Detroit Open). My gut tells me I should go with a Brutal Nightmare and a Diva, but I haven't ruled out replacing either with the Nightmare or the Marauder Madness respectively. Any advice on what would give me the most looks between the two balls as well being the most complete arsenal I could get when adding the Pearl Misfit?

All 3 of these choices are amazing balls. They are also all very flippy. I currently have a Diva as my benchmark ball BUT i did have to tame down the backend a little by hitting it with a 4000 pad. IMO you cant go wrong with these 3 balls. I would for sure say Brutal without a doubt for your highend ball. Diva, Madness, or even the Meanstreak Brawler is an awesome piece.

+1 for the Diva. Its a nice centre piece for any arsenal.
Although it has been out for a while, I like the way the Hell Raiser Revenge looks in oil and even after a couple hundred games it still hooks more than any ball in my bag.

I was just thinking about a DV8 3 ball arsenal the other day. I think I would go with a Nightmare, Maurader, and Misfit Pearl.

Any thoughts on how to punch a diva up? I would really want it to be the benchmark of my bag and the first ball out for practice. 45x4.5x45 seems like a pretty neutral that will retain the balls' designed intention as versatile and strong off the break point. Also, If I were trying to use the Brutal Nightmare as my heavy oil ball, would it be a mistake to punch it to roll early? Something like 60x5x70?

I had a Brutal for a week drilled 45x4.25x65 and it loped down lane terribly at every surface I could put it at and on multiple volumes of oil. I personally think the Nightmare is a better ball......but thats just my opinion.

I have one Brutal drilled 60x5x70 and its a monster. Its definitely not as heavy rolling as the Nightmare but its very strong. Any layout will work well on the Diva. 45x4.5x45 would definitely work. The ball is so clean, even with the stronger layout, it will roll great.

Which Nightmare do you think would fair better on Sport patterns (Particularly Carmen Salvino and Detroit Open though I don't think you'd either on Cheetah)? I'm wondering if I don't want the heavier roll from the Nightmare to compliment the Diva for longer-heavier patterns like Detroit Open. I'm sure both are great heavy oil balls, but I'm looking to get the least overlap and most versatility considering the smaller size of the arsenal I get to use in this league.

Both Nightmares are very usuable on the sport patterns you mention. The Nightmare would probably be a little better suited for fresh conditons. The Brutal saw tons of action at the Masters and a few of the Brunswick staffers were even using them. I saw Loschetter and Parker Bohn using a Brutal in match play. So it really depends on where you want the ball to fit. For what you are describing, the Nightmare with a bit of surface, 2000 maybe would be great on fresh and the Diva would definitely not overlap it. As the lanes break down you can definitely move left all day with Diva and she wont quit.

I would think that the Diva at 45 x 4.5 x 45 might be a little too strong of a reaction even with your medium revs and speed. I drilled my Diva with 65 x 5 x 65 and left it with the oob surface. My rev rated is around 400 and my speed is 16.5 mph. The Diva has a great heavy rolling reaction and I can use it on fresh or broken down conditions. The other ball I would suggest is a Brutal Nightmare or Meanstreak Brawler for your stronger ball. Both balls have a strong downlane motion with a pin up drilling. And they take well to surface changes with their hybrid covers. Don't count out the Marauder Madness either as your other ball because of the solid cover that takes well to surface changes. Depending on who is in your league, you might need 2 medium types of balls because of the breakdown of the lanes.

If you are looking at the DV8 line, I would suggest a Diva and Brutal Nightmare. If you are looking for a mixed arsenal, then I would suggest a Diva and Meanstreak Brawler. I would suggest a controlled pin under drilling for the Diva and a pin up drilling on the other ball. If you are looking for 2 controlled balls, then a Diva and Marauder Madness would be a good choice. The Marauder Madness would be your heavier oil ball with a stronger pin under drilling and a 2000 surface which the surface can be adjusted accordingly.

Well, I went and ordered a Diva and a Brutal Nightmare. I'm not going to have the diva drilled to be overly aggressive, as It's going to be what I have to roll on a Cheetah pattern, and that is going to be rough without a nice long ball I can roll up the twig. The Brutal nightmare is going to be drilled pin in ring (about 4.5 in from PAP) and cg kicked out to 45* to help it stay aggressive but even out the roll a little bit and keep it as predictable as possible in the heavier sport shots. I'm getting them on thursday but I won't know how they look on the sport shots until the house puts them out for a practice day in early April.

On a more recent note, I'm falling in love with my Misfit Pearl. Rolled a 733 tonight (I'm a 195 avg bowler) and the only bad shots were user error. That thing destroys house shots and the you barely have to move your feet as it will be clean through the midlane even after the lanes started burning up.
