Need some angularity from a DV8 ball.
« on: April 08, 2013, 10:37:16 AM »
I am new to DV8 equipment and looking to expand my DV8 arsenal.  I currently have a reckless that I enjoy throwing.  I have had some good sets with it but it does seem slightly condition specific.  It rolls early and smooth which I like because I rarely miss the pocket with it on a wide variety of shots.  Now that being said, I hang a lot of 7-pins because it burns up a little.  I don't really want to change the cover on it because controlling the pocket this well on tougher shots is something I'm not willing to give up.  I would rather pick up another DV8 ball that holds energy better, goes longer, and jumps harder to increase carry when the shot is a wide-open carry contest (ex- shot 2095 at a 9 game tourney recently.  was able to hit the pocket with good angle from parts of the lane that none of the 4 other lefties on my pair could play.  had a washout and 7-10 for my only two opens but shot 23 7-pins costing me a lot over all)  I know that skid flip is not typically what Brunswick/DV8 does but I'm hoping someone can point me in a direction.  I'm left-handed, 16 mph, 325 rpms, high track.

Always get good info here...   Thanks

I think a great fit with your Reckless would be a Diva.  The ball is very clean and very angular downlane.  You could also go with a Brutal Nightmare but for me, the Diva gets used alot more on a wider variety of conditions.  It will also be less of a gap with your Reckless.

Also intended to provide more backend than the Reckless is the recently discontinued Too Reckless. It was the predecessor of the Diva, which has more backend than the Too Reckless. Reckless -> Too Reckless -> Diva (more and more backend)

Many places are getting rid of their Too Recklesses and Ebay is also selling a bunch of them. If you can't get one, the Diva has a very strong backend, almost into the skid/flip class for many people.

How do the misfit and misfit pearl compare to each other in terms of strength and angularity?  I've read the misfit is stronger than advertised and I don't want to get a motion that is too close to my reckless.

much appreciated

Question for you...       Where would the original Marauder fit in relation to the reckless and diva?  No one has really mentioned that one yet.

toneoak1, The Misfit will handle oil better than the Misfit Pearl. The Misfit Pearl gets down the lane farther, and is stronger on the backend when there is friction. The Misfit Peal is best used when the lanes burn up and you still need something to read the friction. The other 3 misfits are good balls at a great price and work well on medium oil conditions.

The Reckless is a stronger overall ball than the 3 Misfits and can handle more oil with a stronger midlane roll. The 3 Misfits are more of a skid / flip type of reaction.

The Marauder would be slightly below the Diva and Reckless. The Marauder has a polished hybrid cover where the Diva an Reckless have a polished solid cover.

As far as the ball to get in addition to the Reckless, I would suggest a Diva. It is a slightly stronger ball and works well on sport and house conditions. The Diva a similar roll to the Reckless and takes well to surface changes. If you are looking for something stronger, then I would suggest a Brutal Nightmare. The Brutal has more of a skid / flip type of reaction.

The original Marauder for me is very angular, depending on the amount of oil it can be really flippy. Its a pitch it right and watch it come back hard ball for sure. Drilled with a 5ish inch pin, over bridge, and a big hole down by the thumb, P2.5 - P3. Great medium to medium light ball.
