Need some ideas.....
« on: February 29, 2012, 10:01:25 PM »
If you could pick TWO of any current Brunswick or DV8 balls to bowl on Cheetah, Scorpion, THS, and Chameleon which would they be?  Have a summer league coming up where we can only throw the two balls we get at the start of the league.

I'm thinking Nexxus/Revenge and Pink/Purple Karma/Reckless, both pin down for good midlane and control on the back end.  I'm a lefty so I won't need length or angle.

What you guys think?

Since most people want smooth even reacting balls on most sport patterns, in general, I'd agree.

Since you didn't mention any of your release specs, I'm assuming your ball speed/rev rate ratio is in the average range (i.e you're not highly speed dominant, nor are you highly rev dominant) and you don't have 200 rpms nor do yo have 500 rpms. Those would change the range of balls you'd be looking for.

I'd also add the Massive Damage and the Karma solid into your consideration list.

Dv8 line I would use Revenge and Misfit,  Brunswick line I would go Nexus Solid and Versa Max.  Combining the two companies I like the Revenge and Versa Max.

Nexus Solid and Too Reckless for me, but I am right handed

Blue Karma without the polish wouldn't be a bad choice either depending on how you like to play the lanes

Assuming normal-ish release specs, I'd have to go with a pin-down Versa-Max (maybe at 3000-4000 grit) for Cheetah, fresh Chameleon, and playing further out on THS and then a pin-up Nexxus f(P+R) for Scorpion and moving inside when the lanes open up more on Chameleon and THS.

Like others have said, with your release specs we can narrow down possibilities alot more.

I haven't seen one in action yet or even tried one, but I'd also have a keen eye on the Versa-Max, probably with a high grit finish and with a pin-in-ring finger/stacked layout (say,  pin @ 4.5-4.75 from PAP) as the stronger piece, and either a Misfit or a Karma (probably a normal Pearl or a Solid, the new Activator+ would certainly be too aggrissive for my needs) with a long pin, placed above the fingers, and polished, for later games and eso. Cheetah.

I really don't understand the Misfit recommendation by several people.  It's a flippy ball like the Cyclone.
Unless you force an even reaction by a drilling/surface combination or your on release/ball speed forces an even reaction from most balls, I can't see using it on any sport pattern. For the oil it handles the Karma solid is much more suitable piece for the lighter oil sport patterns.

Hey guys thanks for the updates so far.  Some background on my preferred game....

I'm a Lefty, speed dominant tweener.  I can rev up the ball but prefer not too.  I prefer to play straight and like the outside of the lane around 567 more than inside 10 but can play inside if need be (very direct).  16-17 mph, 30* axis rotation, approx 295-325 rpm (never measured).  (think parker bohn but with less speed, bout the same rev.)

I'm leaning towards the Nexxus (i have one and love it, wouldn't mind another) or the regular nexus solid.  I am still not certain on the second piece, either a nexus pearl (again have one and love it, another with a different layout would be great), versamax, reckless, Karma A+ or misfit.   Both balls whatever I pick will be drilled the same with a smooth reacting drilling for control.

Any more thoughts?  I like the idea of going nexxus/nexus solid and nexus pearl, I can use my speed to make up for stronger gear and I can throw my nexus pearl on THS now, just worried about cheetah with that ball but the solid with polish might be fine.  Trying to be careful not to buy a ball that's too weak for this concept and not get to use it when I can't use my stronger one.  Thanks for the help....

I would go with Nexus Solid and Pearl. I am sligtly rev dominant at 480rpm at 18.5 mph and the Nesus Solid is great with some surface on cheatah with the correct drilling. Need it to burn of rotation fast.
