New 3 ball arsenal for next season.
« on: June 22, 2013, 07:06:54 PM »
Thinking about retiring my gear and starting fresh with 3 new DV8 balls.  Not sure what my technical stats are.  I'm a tweener with decent amount of revs and a little slower ball speed.  I have the green misfit and love it.  It got pretty beat up last season and was a little too strong for the house I bowl in, so I'm replacing it.  What's a good 3 ball combo?

milorafftery may have some suggestions....he talks about you daily.

If I were to go all DV8, I'd go something like:

Brutal
Diva
Mutiny

Just adjusting surfaces as needed....

You say the green Misfit was a little strong for where you bowl at. Are you planning to bowl in other houses or tournaments?

If so, I'd say Neon Yellow Misfit Pearl, Mutiny, and Diva. I wouldn't go with with Endless personally for you due to being on the rev dominant side of things. If you are expecting to be bowling on some really flooded conditions, then I'd throw the Endless in there.

If you only plan on bowling in that same house, I'd go Neon Yellow Misfit Pearl, replace your green Misfit, and then a Mutiny on top.

Ya, I go out of town to bowl tournaments at least once a month.  Different shots every tournament.  I'm kinda thinking either the Mutiny or Misfit Pearl, Maruader Hybrid, and the Endless.

Since we are only talking about a 3 ball arsenal, the object is the minimize the gaps and expand the windows of usability. Being that you are rev dominant, I don't think the Endless would get much play for you whereas the lower end of your arsenal would. I still think that the most versatile combo you could find for your stats would be the Diva, Mutiny, and the Misfit Pearl. Would you happen to know your rev rate and ball speed approximately? I'd feel more comfortable giving suggestions if we had a more concrete idea of your style.

Your idea of an arsenal sounds good. I'm just worried that you might not be able to find enough oil to throw the Endless and might have a larger gap between the Endless and the Marauder.

I have no clue what my rev rate is.  I really need to figure that out!  Ball speed is around 13-14 mph.

I would suggest for a good 3 ball arsenal on house conditions and a few tournaments:
Diva - drilled the strongest and then you can adjust surface as needed (pin down)
Marauder Mutiny - medium ball and then you can adjust the surface as needed
Misfit Yellow Pearl - light oil  ball and drilled to maximize the high friction the ball was made to do (pin up)

I would agree that the Endless Nightmare would be too strong of a ball for typical house conditions. Also, work with your pro shop operator to get the desired reaction out of your new balls.

Good luck with your DV8 balls.

Exactly my thoughts Brandon. Never be afraid to adjust surfaces with these balls to fine tune your reaction shape. With your style of play, the Mutiny should be a great benchmark for you.

Thanks for your input everyone.  I think I'm going to start off with the Misfit Pearl and take it from there.  By any chance has anyone thrown the Misfit Pearl and the Motiv Ascent Pearl?  How do they compare?  Several people I bowl with keep telling me to try Motiv.

I would definitely say Mutiny and Diva.
I understand what you mean about the Green Misfit being strong.  On a drier condition it can really turn off of the dry boards especially with pin up layouts.  Give the Yellow/Pink Misfit a shot, it is much smoother
