Title: New Arsenal - Mixing it up with Brunswick and DV8
Post by: knucklehead86 on June 25, 2012, 03:55:13 AM
Hey Guys,

Speaking to my National Coach after a tournament.
We ordered a Nexxxus f(P+S) which is been drilled this week.
Along with that I'm drilling a Nexxus f(P+R) to compliment the ball.
Got a Ulti Max & Slingshot as well plus re-drilling my power groove

Looking at adding a
Bruns Versa Max
DV8 Marauder
DV8 Reckless
Bruns Karma Pearl

Think we have covered enough oil patterns and so on with these balls

Responses would be good

Adding a couple a symmetrical balls in your arsenal would be a great idea.  The Karma defiantly for drier conditions.  Choosing the Versa max or Marauder in addition to it.  I haven't rolled the Marauder yet but I'm assuming it has more backend then the Versa.  Hope this Helps

Generally speaking, looking at your arsenal, you're gap in equipment is between the Ulti and Slingshot so I'd certainly look into the Karma Pearl.  At that price point, you get a lot of performance from the ball.  I'd add a Versa Max simply because it's gonna be one of those balls people want 5 years from now because it is such an awesome reaction.

I had a similar lineup and found the Versa Max and Karma Pearl to be perfect fits between the Ulti-max and Slingshot.  They are both incredibly clean through the front part of the lane when the heads burn up.  Looking forward to throwing the Marauder to see how it fits in.  It's supposed to be longer and stronger than the Too Reckless, which for me was really smooth and less angular on the backend than the Versa Max/Karma Pearl.  Although the overall hook potential of the Too Reckless was comparable to the Ulti-Max.

Got a chance to demo the maxxed out today.  Haven't thrown the DV8 stuff so I can't compare, but the Maxxed was very impressive on a burned out 39 foot shot.  I could go from 22 board to 12 and got great hit even with my low rev end over end release.  Very rolly ball, but clean through the heads.  I could play the same area as with my Nexxus but the Maxxed conserved energy better and was stronger off the break point.  Much stronger than the versa max, but if you like the versa you will like the Maxxed as a strong alternative.

I also threw a new Nexxxus but was much less impressed.  Strong off the break point but much harder to get a predictable turn from inside.  Might not have matched up with the condition.

I was told that the Hell Raiser and Marauder are hybrids. Can someone varify that.

Marauder has the new class 4 hybrid cover, Red pearl, yellow solid

Terror has the new class 6 pearl cover.

@JEE Marauder and Original HellRaiser are both Hybrids.  Different cover strengths though.  Original Hell Raiser is Class 5.  Marauder is Class 4.

I think I have decided to go with the Reckless at 3000 abralon for mediums, Marauder Box  for skid / flip a Misfit box for lighter volumes, but for medium / heavy  longer volume I'm still trying to decided between the Hell Raiser pin down at 3000 abralon or the Too Reckless at 2000 abralon. (please help)

Funny you should mention this.  I actually have a Hell Raiser and a Too Reckless drilled identical.  Both surfaces are at 2000.  The Hell Raiser is about 3-4 boards stronger, and slightly more angular than the Too Reckless at that surface.

Hope that helps you make your decision.

If someone has a rev rate of 375 and a ball speed of 15, would you think something like the Revenge and Terror are to much ball.
