Hi all. Im new here and new to bowling. My wife's been bowling for 17 years and I finally decided join her. I have a Reckless and Brunswick Green/Black Avalanche and need some advice on a new ball. I dont know my rev rate and the house we bowl in doesnt tell speed but I know im speed dominant, I rarely see anyone throw the ball harder than me. I've been bowling 2 months, in leauge I have a 150 average and my high game is a 226 witch I threw with my Reckless a few nights ago. With the Reckless im kinda all over the place and really have a hard time getting comfortable and lined up. Anytime I start to struggle with it I can grab my Avalanche, stand around 17 throw 4-6 and it works great, very consistant. I know im a beginner and all but maybe the Reckless just isnt for me? My wife loves her Diva and id like to get another DV8 ball so if possible could someone recomend something for me to try? Thanks!

You have 2 relatively good and serious balls that can cover many conditions.

If you're as new as you indicate, I think, before you develop any bad habits that can't be corrected, it may be the best time for you to get a good coach to take you into the world of serious, fun and competitive bowling. The USBC, the governing body, has a coaching system in place with gold, silver and bronze level coaches. I'd suggest a Silver level coach or the local equivalent. There are many good coaches that aren't certified, but you're safest with a certified coach. They can easily take your game to the next level or two.

This is money much better spent than on a new ball. MUCH!!

Go watch some of the better handicap or scratch leagues bowlers and ask one or three of them or even ask the pro shop: who is a great silver level coach in this area. Don't settle on the first guy recommended, but ask several people.
 

Well, what the stronger ball can do for you can be done by the Reckless once you roughen the surface slightly,
BUT
since you're averaging only 150, what you don't need is a third ball unless it was a plastic/polyester spare ball.
What you do need a better grounding in the basics, possibly one of the most important of which is spare shooting. At150, you are missing too many spares to buy another ball. Not to be nasty, but to be brutally truthful. You can add at least 30 pins to your average before you need another strike ball by just learning to make spares.

A new ball is the last bowling thing you need right now.
