No love for DV8 anymore?
« on: May 27, 2015, 10:40:18 AM »
When DV8 first started, it seemed to be one of the next big companies. It had quite a showing in my area. Now nobody seems to be throwing it anymore. I haven't seen any of their newer stuff thrown, with newer being the last two or three sets of releases. A friend just visited one of the best pro shops in the area and said that there was only one DV8 ball in stock, and the driller doesn't carry anything else by them. What happened to them? They seemed to have a cult following for a while.

In our area, not a single shop carries Motiv.  They all carry multiple balls in the Brunswick, DV8 and Radical lines.  I think it just depends on the operator and whether they might be on staff or have a preference.

No Motiv? Where do you live? Alaska? Lol.

Been to Alaska, and they have MOTIV. Hawaii though, seeing a MOTIV bowling ball is few and far between. Some pro shops have 1 or 2, but you don't see them that much here. Storm, Big B, and EBI rules the land here.

You are right. There is Motiv up here. Actually there is ONE Motiv ball for sale in one pro shop in the big city. LOL.

Everything is always area dependent. Brunswick, DV8, and Radical dominate up here because they have staff here. Storm is a distant 2nd...Motiv is hard to find on the rack, and nearly impossible to find in a pro shop. This has nothing to do with the quality or performance of any equipment, just simply what PSO's prefer to offer based on what the demand is. Matter of fact, we have a shop here that sells lots of Lane1 equipment, more so than some other top brands. Why? Because that PSO likes that brand and pushes it to his customers.

The proshop owner and the sales staff is a huge roll in what will be displayed and what will be pushed.

For my location there is no shop that stocks and displays amf/global, Motiv, Seismic, Visionary, Legends ect. Seen a few Motiv balls and none of the others.

Two shops are EBI gold shops. They carry and heavily push all four brands because they have at least one employee on each brands proshop staff. They carry the new HP release of Brunswick/Radical/DV8 and that is it. Every once in a while a new Storm/Roto HP release.

Another two shops has no rhyme or reason of what is in stock. No staff members. Just random EBI, Bruns, and Storm/Roto release of all price points. They end up with lots of older stock that doesnt sell.

It definitely has to do with pro shops. Exposure to the brand is a major component of its success or lack of success. I started to using DV8, Brunswick and Radical balls and started stocking them in the shop. The interest in them started to grow. This season, DV8 really took off in my shop. The Thug was the biggest seller. Followed by the Unruly, Divine and Outcast. They really do make a great product. They're coverstock technology has only gotten better.

Thug, Unruly and Diva Pearl are my favs. As was the Endless Nightmre. The LT-48 has to be my hands down favorite Brunswick ball. Jab is a great ball too. Since I'm talking about Brunswick in this, I might as well ad my love for the  Radical Black Reax and Yeti Unleashed.

I love my brunswick, radical, and DV8 equipment. I only have one other ball thats not from them and thats the storm sync. My pro shop operators dad is who drills the balls for the brunswick bowlers (Chuck Gardner). We have one brunswick pro in our house and my friend is on the DV8 staff. I love my equipment so much ill probably never change to another brand again. My radical yeti untamed help me get my first 300 and my reax gusto has got me many games where I'm one away from another. Overall I have over 10-12 balls just from the brunswick, radical, and DV8 brands and ill probably never go to anything else

The pro shop preference for a particular ball company dictates most of their ball sales.  We have two pro shops in the local area.  One is a BowlersMart franchise and although they stock various brands, if you ask for anything other than Storm/Roto Grip the Storm Staffer who works there does everything he can to discourage you from buying anything other than Storm/Roto Grip.
The other shop only stocks Storm/Roto and a few Cyclones because its a small shop, but will order any ball you want. And he never talks negatively about any of the other brands/balls.Needless to say, I will buy from the shop that respects my wishes for a particular brand/ball.
Storm//Roto produces some great equipment, but they are not the only one.  I have been throwing mostly Motiv for the last four years and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
