My suggestion would be either a reckless or diva.   If you choose a diva, I'd hit it with 2000 abralon

I've recently switched to dv8 after having a negative experience with another brand at nationals. I love the backend and continuation I am seeing, but this has created another problem. I need a smooth controllable ball that I can count on when the backends are flying. My first dv8 was the brutal nightmare drilled 55 x 5 x 30. I then punched a marauder to compliment at 65 x 4 7/8 x 60. Turned out to be just as strong and only a little earlier. I have a misfit yellow I'm gonna drill with a 6" pin up.My question is there another ball I should look into to fit what I need?                       
My specs are: PAP 4.5 over. Tilt 18 degrees. Speed 17 mph. 350 rpm.

Drill another Misfit or Marauder only this time; put the pin at 2 inches from your axis and no weight hole.  This will already lay the core down and thus really smooth out the backend.  I have an Ebonite Black Ice drilled this way and also going to be punching up a Track 300C Solid when I get it either this week or next.  Even with my 500+ rev rate, it allows me to control the backends extremely well.

2" pin to pap roll more consistent or versatile with a weight hole...without the weight hole they become extremely sensitive and less useful.
I can take a polyester and with some surface and a large weight hole, pls friction, can create smooth & controllable

Thats why I suggested the Marauder as a possibility.  If the ball is shiny, then it wont lose all "pop" on the backend.  He said he wants smooth and controllable and it doesnt get much more controllable and predictable than putting the pin close to the PAP. 

If he wants to go up the boards, then pin at 2 - 2.5 inches from PAP is ticket.  If he wants something with the reaction but able to play deeper, then he may need to go more towards 3 - 3.5 inches from PAP.

Another thing is that you are not going to do a 2 inch pin with a sanded surface unless he has ball speed.  Needs to do something with a sheen if not shiny surface to still get through the fronts well but the pin close to PAP to control the backend.

As far as weight holes, I do not have much experience with weight holes in a ball with the pin at 2 inches and cg near center of grip.  I now have two balls laid out this way; Black Ice and now the 300C Solid and neither have a weight hole.  Black Ice rolled like Jesus on shorter patterns and have not thrown the 300 yet.  Plan on doing a comparison in the next week or so. 

The main thing we need to know is:  what is this guys specs (ball speed, PAP, rev rate)?  Then we can narrow it down as a 2 inch pin to PAP may not work for someone with a slower ball speed.

I missed the Marauder and saw the Misfit.  I now see the Marauder and think it might be pretty nice with the 2 inch pin to PaP.

I had a Combat Zone 2 X 2 with a strengthening weight hole.  Loved it early in a set!

The OPosters specs are listed above except axis rotation.
