30 Deg. Element

I have one that I bought used a while ago.  It came to me with a 4"x2" layout and the MB is at approximately. 30 degrees.  I stopped using it awhile back when I changed my spans, but I'm in the process of redoing it.  

Due to the unusual layout and amount of plugwork already on the ball I'm not likely going to change that layout.  My question is, with my speed and revs, what is this ball going to do well with that layout on it?

Sounds like a close match to the DynoThane drill pattern #2,..see www.dynothane.com  On original Element I found the cover stock is very strong and will hook. With this drilling you may also need a balance hole to get the side weights to legal,...I think this ball will roll early and heavy,..and need some oil up front to be effective..jim

Your profile shows that you have this ball polished,..and with your slow-medium speed, and on a fresh shot,..you should see a smooth arc and a ball that rolls early. Dry heads or a dry track may cause the ball to roll out. Should be good for oil though. jim

Okay, well I finished redoing this ball this evening and got on the lanes with it to see what I had created.  

I'm really regretting my purchase of Ebonite's particle polish.  After polishing it reminded me of a ball more accustomed to use as a 10 pin ball.

Resurfaced it with some 1200 to dull it up a little and it helped slightly.  It was after a shift or two of bowling, so carrydown may have been the culprit.  I'll give it a whirl tomorrow before league.  Maybe I should have let it sit overnight before trying it.  Does water that it used during wet sanding get absorbed into the surface of the ball and affect it's reaction?

naw.. I wouldn't worry about the water...  I think you are safe there.  I've had some experiences with Ebonite polishs where they really cut down on the overall hook of the ball (even backend)...  I typically get this with the factory finish or extender polish though... the particle poslish usually doesn't "kill' the ball.  I would guess this may be just due to lane conditions and/or carry down, although it sounds like the ball (being plugged a few times) may have a number of games on it.... so it may be a good time for oil extraction & resurface.  If you want a polished ball, I would try maybe wet sanding to 600-grit and particle polish with very light pressure, just enough to get a shine on the surface...

I might have to stick to 600 with rubbing compound...  800 to the Ebonite PP just is too much.  I may give the ball a bath this weekend, but when I cut the plugs down I  did resurface it.

Currently have the ball matte with a grey pad.  Seems to work 15 to about 10 for  break point.  With decent backends it'll really toss the pins around, but once the oil starts thinning out in the heads and mids it gets harder to keep in the pocket.

I think I had to dull it up a little due to an increase in ball speed over the past few months.  I'd really like to get my stats nailed down with Bowler's Map or the like so I could give people here a better idea of my style.
