ABS Shoes
« on: December 25, 2003, 07:39:17 AM »
With some Christmas money, I'm considering some new bowling shoes.  I currently use Lind's Exxxxtra's, but was thinking about trying the ABS shoes from Dynothane.  If people who use them could comment on their comfort and durability for someone who puts a lot of games on their shoes, I would appreciate it greatly it, thanks.

The shoes are comfy, but the heels and soles wear out really easily.

The ridged and dimpled heels were worn smooth after less then 10 games. And all the soles start to slide way too much, so you have to make sure you have a wire brush to keep them true.

That being said, I know the newest model of SST 6s supposedly feel just as good as the ABS, but without the wear and tear.

Hey, thanks for the advice, I had heard some rumblings that they wore out somewhat quickly, and I saw some SST 6's I thought were pretty good also.  Might go with those instead.  Thanks again.

Just one more thing, did you mean the SST 6's or SST 6 LX?  Not sure what the difference is in those shoes.

I had one of the very first pairs since Dyno-thane started distributing ABS shoes, and at first I noticed a problem with a couple of the heels wearing out quickly.  I had them replaced and haven't had much problem since.  Not sure why, but maybe they have imrpoved the quality of them?

I know that Dyno-thane stands by their product and if you have problems with something they will be more than happy to find a solution.

I suggest trying on a pair of both shoes before buying them.  I feel confident you'll find the ABS shoes better.

Thanks for all of the feedback, what I might do is see if my pro shop would be kind enough to let me see one of each pair, and see what I think would hold up better considering all of the responses I've heard also.  My SST 5's did wear out on the non-slide shoe with the sole coming apart from the shoe, and didn't know if the 6's had been changed any.  The Lind's are still going strong, but never hurts to have an extra pair of quality shoes I suppose.

Look at the ABS Sport Ultras unless you want the pucks like your Exxtras.  I didn't like pucks.  Lil cheaper shoe price wise but just as good as Tour Ultras.

Now that DT has come out with the orange leather heel.  You shouldn't need the Adjust-a-heel.  For me the grey and white smooth heels are just about the same.  I bowl on both wood and synthetic aproaches.  I use my whole foot for slide.  Slider not a plant and thrower.

I decided on the ABS Tour Ultra's.  I remembered how my last pair of SST's kind of fell apart on me, so I thought I would give these a try.  My wife also got a pair and Dexter lost a sale on her also, because they don't make SST 5's for left handed women, not in all styles at least, so she went with some Lind's.  Thanks again for the help, and I look forward to breaking in the ABS's soon.

Good choice Game.......

I have had my Tour Ultras since March.I bowl in 5 leagues a week plus tournaments and practice would say about 50 games a week and the shoes have never let me down.

It doesn't matter if the approaches are synthetic, wood, sticky or slick these shoes are comfortable, soft and work great.

At Nationals in '03' the approaches were VERY sticky and alot of guys had to buy slide socks to be able to slide, but the ABS shoes worked great.Just bought my wife some about a month ago, she has used Linds for 15 years but now she says she likes the ABS shoes better.

I do suggest you buy the adjustable heel that is available for the shoes also.

Well good luck and let us know how you like the ABS shoes....

I just got my ABS' and tried them tonight for the first time. EXTREMELY comfortable. I like the options of the soles and heels. I do wish they would have had a paper with them that were alittle more helpful (such as the ones that the SST6s come with.

And, what are these adjustable heels everyone keeps talking about? What does it do?

There are so many gadgets with these shoes, it took me about 45 minutes just to go through everything.

With that said.......they are great!!! As long as they hold up, I will never own another brand of shoe. The SST6s are in the process of falling about 1 1/2 years in.....so I figured I would try something different. I am glad I did.

After purchasing the new orange leather heel that DT recently brought out.  IMO....you won't need the adjusta-heel, if you get the leather heel.
